Trash Collection

29-April-2012
   Starting the first week in May the Borough of Bogota will again have a twice weekly trash pick-up. The days will be the same as years past. It will be on a Monday & Thursday pick-up. or a Tuesday & Friday pick-up for the Summer months. The recycling pick-up will still be Wednesday for the entire Borough, alternating between cardboard & paper on one week. And plastics & metals on the other.
  This is apart of the Borough's contract with it's hauling company to keeps cost down, and have more pick-ups in the warmer months

Earth Day

29- April-2012
   The Village of Ridgefield Park had it's Earth Day festival yesterday in Riverside Park along the banks of the Hackensack River. There were informational booths set-up to help residents find out how to keep a safe and healthy environment by the Ridgefield Park Shade Tree Commission , and the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission. Animal displays were brought from The Tenafly Nature Center, and the Wildlife Conservation & Education Center (WCEC) of Ridgefield Park.
  The children had a change to get there face painted, go on a scavenger hunt for natural item, and to even pet some exotic animals from the WCEC. All attendees had a chanceto take advantage of a brisk and clear day along the banks of the Hackensack River.
   Music was provide by the Risky Business Blue Grass Band.

Steen Pasta Night

28-April-2012
   The Steen PTO held a Pasta Night & raffle last night in the school's gym. The money raised will go to the Steen PTO general fund in order to help support some of the programs that the PTO provides to the students. Themed baskets were assigned to each class for the students to fill. As well as other prizes that were donated from many local business. There were also many prizes given by national companies , and some new Jersey sports teams.
   The food was provided by the California Pizza Kitchen.

Youth Academy

27- April- 2012
   The Bogota Police Dept, and the Bogota Emergency Services will hold their second Youth Academy. The training will run from Friday 13- July, starting with orientation. Then go from Mon 16- July to Tues.-24 July. There will be no training on the weekend. It is open to all Bogota Students you will be entering grades 6,7,& 8 in the upcoming school year starting in Sept. 2012. It is open to both Boys & Girls. Each day will run from 7:30a to 4:30p. The days will consist of Academic Classes, Physical Training, along with hands on demonstrations and activities.
   Applications will be available on Mon. 30- April starting at 7:30a from the Police headquarters located at W. Broad St. Bogota, NJ. The applications due no later than Mon. 14- May at 7:30p. All application must be brought to the Police H.Q.
  Only in it's second year the  Bogota Youth Academy has been highly successful. Headed by Bogota police's Sgt. Lynch it is praised by last year's participants, and their families. Sgt lynch has also been asked to help other Boroughs hold a similar program, and has even has had request for students out side Bogota to joins the Bogota Academy.

Advisory

  The New Jersey State Police dept of  Office of Emergency Management is issuing a weather advisory for today Sun 22- April into tomorrow Mon 23-April over the incoming rain storm . Dry conditions along with periods of heavy rain may produce flash flooding in some areas. The storm could bring  high winds with it. For more information please go to www.weather.gov/07603

Bogota Sports

  The Baseball team lost to  Dwight- Englewood yesterday 12- 7. They play again this coming Mon. 23- April against Waldwick starting at 4:00p the game will be played at Fiegel Baseball Field.
  The Lady Bucs Softball had a 21-21 tie Sat. also against Dwight - Englewood. They will also host Waldwick on Mon 23- April at the Softball field in Olsen Park with the game starting at 4:00p
  The Track team has a meet in Park Ridge on Tues 24- April starting at 4:00p

Council Meeting

19- April-2012
  Some highlights of the Bogota Borough Council Meeting tonight.
-There will be a "Boot Drive" on Sat. 28-April for the Fire Dept. Engine Co. #1 at E. Main St.& Palisade Ave. W. Main St & River Rd  W.Main St. & Larch, The Quick Check and Boxcar Bagels. The Rescue squad also want to hold a " Boot Drive" on the same day, and is advised to work with Engine #1 about sharing the locations.
- Also on 28 April there will be a paper shredding event in the Parking lot of St. Joseph's Church with the first 100 users getting a tree seedling.
- The American Legion requests  the Mayor and Council attend the Memorial Day ceremonies at 11:00a in front of Borough Hall, and the Parade starting at 2:00p
-Councilwoman Uceta, talked about the concerned that there are violations of the no dog  ordinance in Olsen Park. Council Jackson ask if any dealing with "service dog" ( which is allowed)  She said that was not part of the concerned, and ask if the ordinance needs to be strengthen , or better enforced. At this time in was mentioned that it may be  possibly for a "Dog Walk" to be place in Olsen Park.
- Councilman Nunez asked for a vote on taking off the table a the ordinance about the Recreation Commission. this was defeated by a 4 to 3 margin with Mayor McHale breaking the tied council vote. The Mayor then set-up a committee of Councilwomen Uceta ( who is the Councils liaison to the Rec Commission) Council President Brophy, and Administrator Nicolosi to find a solution to the issue about the Rec Commission
- Council Jackson recommended that a letter be sent, from the Mayor , and Council to the Hackensack Fire Dept. to thank them  for assisting the Borough  with the building collapse at 14 E. Ft Lee Rd.
- Council Jackson also talked about the on going problems at the Kennedy EMS building. this was brought up again during  the Citizen Remark time when Mr. Hernandez of  Larch Ave said he could arrange engineering services to look at the Kennedy building . This was quickly accepted by the Mayor & Council and brought a round of applause from the public who attended the meeting. At this time Mr. Nicolosi thanked Mr. Hernandez  on the record for his work and help to the Borough in  helping to repair items inthe Borough after several recrnt storms

Family Fun Festival

16-April-2012
  Bergen County is sponsoring a Multicultural Family Fun Festival this Sunday 22 -April. It will be held at the Richard Rodda Community Center in Teaneck,NJ. The Festival will run from 1:00 to 4:00p . It is free for all families and children to age 8.  Scheduled are Arts & Crafts, Dance & Movement  events along with stores being told in Both English & Spanish.
  The Rhodda Center is located at the southern end of Votee Park in Teaneck and is accessible off of Palisade Ave.

Bogota Baseball/Softball

   The High School baseball team had a 1 &1 weekend The Boys lost  at Park Ridge on Fri. 13-April by the score of 9 to 8. Then had a victory over Elmwood Park on Sat. 14- April at Home 10-4. Their next game is this coming Tues 17-April when they travel to Saddle River for a 4:00 p game.


   The Girls Softball team lost at home to Park Ridge also on Fri. 13- April  by the score of  15 - 0. The Girls next game is at home to Saddle River on Tues. 17- April in Olsen park starting at 4:00p

Hose Co. #2 Comedy

15-April-2012
   Last night the Bogota Fire Dept. Hose co. # 2 held it's third annual Comedy Night. It was held at the Elks Club in Ridgefield Park, NJ. Not only were friends &  family locally in attendance, but several tables were bought by Fire Dept. from other Boroughs. Elmwood Park & Bergenfield companies came to show their support for the Bogota Fire Fighters. Members of Hose # 2 were gracious hosts serving  the  food prepared by Capt. Muhlhahn. Other members of the company went out their way to make sure the guest were looked after, and shown a good time.
   The show started with M.C. Joe Fernandes, followed by Bill Chaig then headliner Danny Lobell. As with most visitors to the area the normal jokes about how to pronoun the name Bogota, and the fact that an event in one town is really for a group from another, and many in attendance are from many different places. Show the New Jersey many be a lot of small towns, but they can stand together for a good cause.
  After a night of good times and many laughs it is reported that the dinner has raise mony to help upgrade the firehouse used by the " Top of the Hill Gang" to help in their efforts as part of  the all volunteer Bogota Fire Dept.

Opening Day

15-April-2012
  The Bogota Baseball Organization opened it's 32nd season yesterday. The day started with a parade of teams down Main St to Scully field in Olsen Park. Mayor McHale and BBO President Nick Barese lead the players & parent though town.  The marchers were escorted by the Bogota Police clearing the way and trucks from the Fire Dept. bring up the rear to help announce the beginning of a new season. Over 200 Girls And Boys representing teams from Tee Ball to 12years Baseball & Softball players showed off their team spirit as they heard the applause from the residents standing along the parade route.
   When the teams arrived at Olsen Park Mayor McHale gave the  first " Play Ball" call and wished all the teams the best of luck. A moment was taken to salute the Country with the National Anthem, the teams from Bogart Memorial and Quick Check played the first Tee- Ball  game. The first Pee- Wee game was Tom's Service  going against Bishop Photo.

Weekend Events

 Friday 13- April 
        Bogota Boys High School Baseball have a home game versus Park Ridge  at Fiegel Baseball field. Opening pitch is scheduled at 11:00a
        Bogota Girls Softball travel to Park Ridge for a 4:00p game
 Saturday 14-April
       The Bogota Baseball Organization will have it's opening day parade starting at 8:00a beginning in front of the High School, proceeding down Main St. Finishing at Scully Field in Olsen Park. Some games to follow.
       Hose Co. #2 Comedy Night will be at the Elks lodge in Ridgefield Park Doors open at 7:00 p with the entertainment starting around 8:30p Tickets are $35 and are available at the door.

     
   

Building Collapse

12-April-2012
   The building at 14 E. Ft Lee Rd suffered a partial collapse of it's facade as working were trying to remodel it. Reports from eyewitness said the workers had started to remove the front windows when bricks started to fall from the building.  Emergence workers from Bogota were called to the scene. The Bogota Fire Dept. ask for assistance from the Hackensack Fire Dept. While assisting to help secure the building two Hackensack Firefighter were injured.   The building , and it's adjoining address at 12 E. Ft.Lee Rd have been evacuated as a safety precaution. Bogota Police has barracked off a section of  E.Ft. Lee Rd  until the building can be secured.

Bogota Baseball

    The Bogota Girls softball team lost to 14-8 against Teaneck on a game played on Tues 10- April. Then lost again to Emerson 10-0 on a game that was played today.  Their next game is away to Park Ridge Fri.-13- April starting at 4:00p
   The Boys Baseball team's next game is also  at Park Ridge Fri-13-April starting at 11:00a
   The Bogota Baseball Organization opening day parade will on on Sat. 14-April starting at 8:00a. It will begin in front of the High School then make it's way down Main St. and finishes at Scully field in Olsen Park.

Police Unity Tour Dinner

   The Bogota Ridgefield Park chapter of the Police Unity Tour held a dinner and raffle at the 101 Pub in Bogota last night.  The process's from this event goes to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund.  The Police Unity Tour main function is raise awareness of the law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty. From their rides, and other event they have raised over $10 million dollars for the National Law Enforcement Offices Memorial in Washington DC .
  Chief Burke was happy with last night's gathering call the event a success.  The event brought in over $4000.00 dollars, to be added to other money raised for the the Memorial.
