Police Chief Henry Smith

    The Bogota Police  Department has release a notice on the passing of former Police Chief Henry Smith. The following is a copy of that notice:

IN MEMORIAM-Chief Henry J. Smith 
Passed away at 88 years of age, on Sunday July 7, 2013. Devoted husband of Dorothy L. (Otto), for 65 years. Dedicated father of four, Colonel John M. Smith, US Army, and his wife Julia, Barbara S. Farrell and her husband Thomas, Commander Michael J. Smith, US Coast Guard, and his wife Catherine, and Joanne M. Vanak and her husband Commander Thomas, US Coast Guard. Proud grandfather (affectionately called "Pa") of fourteen, Jake, Luke and Zack Smith, John Henry and Barbara Leigh Farrell, Max, Mollie, Moria, Maggie, Matteson, McHale Smith and Jill, Jeff and John Vanak. Great-grandfather of four and loyal friend to many. 
"Smitty" was a US Navy veteran serving in the Mediterranean Theatre during WWII. A Bogota Police Officer for over 38 years retiring in 1988 as Chief of the Department. Loyal member and past president of PBA Local 86. Member of the Bergen County Police Chiefs Association. Henry (Hank) volunteered in the Englewood Hospital Emergency Department for over 20 years and was honored as 2012 Volunteer of the Year. Devoted parishioner of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Bogota. Henry loved model ship building, golfing, and counted cross stitch. 

  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his name may be made to Tomorrows Children's Fund, 30 Prospect Ave., Hackensack, NJ 07601, or the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.

Memorial visiting will be at Petrik Funeral  Home  on Tuesday 9-July from 4:00p to 8:00p. Located at 140 Palisade Ave. Bogota,NJ A service will be held  at St. Joseph's Church on Wednesday 10- July stating at 9:45a . Located at 115 E. Ft. Lee Rd. Bogota , NJ
