Board of Education Reorganization

9-Jan-2014
On Tuesday 7-January the Bogota Board of Education held the swearing in of the three candidates who revived the most votes in the November Elections. Those where two new candidates Gloria Clark and Pauline McDonnell, along with incumbent Charles Severino. The three were given the Oath Office by Board Secretary Norma Tursi. Then the Board selected a President & Vice President for the Board of Education. Laura Giumarra was elected President by a 5-2 vote Mr. Severino was also nominated but he declined the offer. Michael Connors was elected as Vice President also by a 5-2 vote.  One of the two was table for the next meeting . This was a a recommendation that the Board would meet once a month for the year 2014. This was question by Mr. Severino saying that the idea had not been decided on during the Board work sessions.  Mr. Connors, who push for the recommendation, talked about how maybe a once -a -month meeting may be better attended by the Parents of the students in Bogota. He also mention that there may be a slight  savings with only one meeting a month. Mr. Severino felt that the Board needed to have two meeting a month so as not to overload any one meeting with added recommendations. There was also talk about adding meeting later when needed with at least 48 hour notice. Lisa Pella said that because of her work that would not be enough time for her to rearrange her schedule, and mention that other parents may have the same problems. This recommendation was scheduled to be taken-up at the next Board meeting.
Another matter discussed  was to determine the process for filling an empty seat on the Board. This will be further discussed at the next meeting to be held on Tuesday 21- Jan. This will be opened to the Public and is scheduled to start at 7:30p  and held in the Cafeteria  of the High School   located on the second floor at 2 Henry Luthin Place Bogota, NJ
