Bogota Sports

1-March-2014

 A recap of the last few days from High School Sports.
  Wrestling
- On Thursday 27- Feb.  5 Bogota  Wrestlers Competed in the NJSIAA Region #2 First Round. The only Wrestler to advance was  # 6 ranked 170lbs Dennis Kolenovic. He scored at 7-2 decision over Jules Grom of Emerson. the other Wrestlers results were as follows:
At 120 lbs # 12 Boula Takla lost to Dom Salvatore od Lodi by pinfall.
At 160 lbs # 8   Freddy Takla lost to Nick Mazzel of Emerson  7-8
At 182 lbs #13  Jonathon profit lost to Jeff Lombardi of Don Bosco by pinfall.
At 285 lbs # 11 Beni Lopez lost to Nick Napoli by Pinfall.
    In the Quarterfinal round on Friday 28-Feb  170 lbs Dennis Kolenovic beat Nick Bucci of Paramus by a 3-1 decision. In the Semifinal Round on Sat.1- Match 170 lbs  Dennis Kolenovic lost to Kevin Mulligan 1-14 in a Major Decision.

Basketball
  On Thursday 27- Feb. the Boys team held their senior night game at Speary Gym and beat Palisade Park by the score of 56-48. The Bucs started being down by 3 points at the end of the first Quarter then outscored the Tigers 20-10 to take a seven point lead into the half. Bogota kept the lead for the rest of the game to give their Seniors a win in their final game at home. Danny Connors had a game high of 24 Points netting 5 three point baskets While Keith Buirkle ended the game with 13 Points 9 of them coming on three point shots. Brain Lukabu and Isiah Dela Cruz each pulled down 5 rebounds.
  The next day the Bucs finished their season with a 52-62 at Ridgefield. Bogota ended the year with a 8-17 record marking the first time in 32 years a Coach Mahoney Basketball team did not qualify for the State Tournament.
  The Lady Bucs finished their season at Palisade Park with a 52-34 win against the Lady Tigers. Kristin Bautista lead with 20 points, and Stephanie Perpepaj had 13, & Brittney Perpepaj had 12 points. The Lady Bucs ended their season at 9-14 after going winless in their first eight games. Of those 9 wins Bogota score 40 or more points in eight of them.  Bogota goes in to the North 1 Group 1 NJSIAA tournament as the #14 ranked team. They play #3 Saddle Brook on Monday 3- March starting at 5:00p
