Board of Education Meeting

   On Tuesday the Bogota Board of Education held their final meeting  of the School Year. The first order of business was to honour & thank those Teachers & Staff who are retiring from the Bogota School District.  Plaques were given to Teachers Mr. Ken MacDonald,  Ms. Robin Hanik, Ms.Nora Donaldson, Ms.Barbara Lehman, & Ms. Mary Puzen. Along with School Nurse Ms. Elaine Meechan.
The the Board recognized three Teachers that had been selected to receive the 2013-14 Bergen County Teachers/Educational Service Professional Recognition Program Award. They were Ms. Cindy Piano, Ms Jeannette Hall, & Mr. John Mahoney. Also  the Board recognized Bixby Principal Robert Watts for his being named BCSCA Administrator of the Year.
  Two items of note on the Board regular agenda was the addition of a Soccer team  as a varsity sport starting in the Fall of next school year. They will play an independent schedule of games, due to the  Fall Schedule has already been set for 2014-15. Athletic Director Brad DiRupo had previously inform the Board that Bogota will have a number of games added to the schedules of other schools with Soccer as a Varsity sport.  Home games will be played at one of the Soccer Fields in Overpeck Park.
 The other item that was voted on was to eliminate one of the business teaching positions for next  School year, the one held by Ms. Crugnola. A large number of current & former Student can to speak on Ms. Crugnola behalf. Superintendent Dr. Pantoliano noted that some of the classes will be transferred to other departments.  The Board voted 5-4 for eliminating the one position. This was greeted with anger, and shouts of displeasure toward the Board.
