Bogota Beautiful

22-January-2016

On Wednesday 20-January Bogota Beautiful held its first meeting of 2016. At this meeting the first order of business was to welcome the Bogota Borough Council Liaison Councilwoman  Kathy Gates-Ferris. Councilwoman Ferris was named to the Borough Council to fill the seat left vacant when Lisa Kohles resigned from that office.  Councilwoman Ferris was welcomed by Chairperson Amaru Bustamante. She then gave the meeting some background information about herself. She has served as the head of the Bogota Scouts, a member of the Steen PTO, and as a Trustee to the Bogota Board of Education.  Councilwoman Ferris has a Masters in Public Administration,  and is also an ordained interfaith minister.   Councilwoman Ferris also runs the Dragonfly Healing Center in Bogota, she also admitted to have a love of gardening so much that she had, from time to time, took it upon herself to weed out in front of Borough Hall when it seemed needed. She hopes that all her experiences will help to grow Bogota Beautiful for the Borough and its citizens.
Next item talked about was the the continuing Salsa Night on Thursdays. The final night will be on Thursday 28-Jan and be a Social Dance starting at 8:00p. This will again be at the Kennedy Emergency Services Building  located at 69 W. Main St Bogota, NJ. Music and light refreshment will be available. It was announced that anyone wishing to bring their own alcoholic beverages will be allowed. There is a suggested donation of $10 to attend. The process from the Salsa Dance Night go to Bogota Beautiful and the Bogota Rescue Squad. In the same vane as the Salsa Night, Bogtoa Beautiful  will again be sponsoring Yoga in the Park. No dates have been set, however the session may be scheduled for May and June of 2016.
The Bogota Community Garden has been reassigned to the lot on River Rd at W. Ft. Lee rd. This will allow for an increased number of raised beds available for planting. The hope to break ground during the second quater of 2016.  Bogota Beautiful will have its own bed  as a sample of what can be grown. To help fund this project Bogota Beautiful is working with Flower Power Fundraising that has a catalog of plants available for purchase with a proportion of the price being donated back to Bogota Beautiful.
Bogota Beautiful will still have an Earth Day event on Saturday 23- April. They have been ask by Borough Council to have another area of focus other than Olsen Park. They still plan to do a clean up of the Railroad crossing at Ft. Lee rd more details will be announced at a later date.
Other items that have moved forward, but still in the planning stages are a Wine & Cheese Social tentatively in March 2016. Funding for decorative banners that will change seasonally. Funding for the banner project will come in the form as a Bogota Cook-book featuring recipes from residents of Bogota.
Finally Angela Alberti is assisting in securing grant money for health and wellness events that Bogota Beautiful could help organise, or co-sponsor. On such event would be a ' Walk with the Mayor" to help promote fitness as well as showing off the Borough.
