November Events

1-November-2016

Some events scheduled to take place in and around Bogota  for the month of November.  Times and dates may change due weather or other circumstances. Please contact the event for the most up to date information.  More events will be added throughout the month.
  
Continuing    

  The Bogota Public Library has set out a box to collect old, and used Crayola coloured makers. Makers collected will be send to the Crayola company to be reprocessed. For more information please visit their web site at;  http://www.crayola.com/colorcycle

October to December
    Monday -3- October will be the start of Leaf Season. Home Owners are allowed to place raked, leaves and grass cutting  in the street , along the curb, in front of their residents.  It is ask that the piles be placed in such a way as not to interfere with traffic, and away from storm sewers and drain to prevent flooding , or other water build-up. Leaf Season is schedule to end on Monday -19- December after that date all yard waste must be placed in brown leaf bags for pick-up. 




Sunday-30-Oct.
Montclair, NJ

   The Bogota Marching Buccaneer Band will participate in the  70th North Jersey Band Festival at Montclair State University.  The events starts at 4:30p with Bogota scheduled to be the fourth band to perform. ( Rain date will be Sunday -6-November also at 4:30p). Bogota has been the only High School band to attend all 70 festivals. Tickets are $10.00 in advance, and $15.00 at the gate. parking cost $6.00 . The Bogota Public Library will host a writers workshop starting at 10:30a. This will be presented  by Joan Lefford who will assist anyone who would like to learn the art of storytelling though the written page.     The Bogota Public Library will host a Mini-Makers lab for Students age 4-6. This will be held on the library first floor in the Teen quiet study area.  The Bogota Public Library will present their next Smartypant Lecture starting at 11:00a.  This weeks topic will be to explain the Electoral College. Sunday-6-Nov.
Montclair, NJ
The 70th North Jersey Band Festival at Montclair State University was rescheduled to this date to due to weather cancellation on 30-Oct.
   The Bogota Marching Buccaneer Band will participate in the  70th North Jersey Band Festival at Montclair State University.  The events starts at 4:30p with Bogota scheduled to be the fourth band to perform. ( Rain date will be Sunday -6-November also at 4:30p). Bogota has been the only High School band to attend all 70 festivals.     The weekly " Meet the Mayor"  event will take place in the office of Mayor Chris Keleman  This is open to any Bogota resident who would to ask the Mayor a question about  Bogota, or to discuss any matter to help improve the quality of life in the Borough. Anyone who wishes just to have an informal conversation with the Mayor is also welcome to attend. Meetings will be held on a first come basis. This will run from 5:00p to 7:00p in the Mayor's office. His office is on in Bogota Borough Hall located at 375 Larch Ave. Bogota, NJ.

 The Bogota Public Library will present the latest meeting of  Coffee, Cookies, and Colouring. This is designed to have a moment of relaxation by joining other for some cookies & coffee while passing the time to do some colouring. This is open to anyone 16 years of age or over.   This is Election Day 2016 , the polls are opening at 6:00a and remain open until 8:00p.
  Bogota Public Schools are closed due to the need for them to be polling stationsPolls are located at the at :
-- For Districts 1& 6 it is the Bogota Recreation Center at 162 W. Main St.
   Districts 1&6 is that part of the Borough located West of the Railroad tracks.

-- For Districts 2&3 it is the Gym of  Bogota High School at 1 Henry Luthin Pl.  please use the door towards the back of the building on the North side of the Building.
  Districts 2& 3  is that part of the Borough located East of the Railroad tracks & North of Beechwood Ave

--  For Districts 4&5 it is  in the Gym of the Roy Bixby School at Maplewood & Fischer Aves.

Bogota 
   The Bogota VFW Ralph Hall Post # 5561 will host its  54nd annual Veterans Day ceremony.  This is a chance for the citizens of Bogota to show their thanks and appreciation for what the members of the Armed Services both past & present mean to the Country. Doors open at 6:30 pm, ceremony starts at 8pm. It includes announcement of Bogota's citizen of the year and its young volunteer award. Please come by for the ceremony and refreshments. Admission is free and the public is invited to attend. Saturday-19-Nov.
Bogota 
  The next Walk with the Mayor will be starting at 10:00a in Olsen Park. This is the latest event to promote in Heath and Wellness within Bogota. This walk will highlight the recent resolution by the Bogota Board of Education and the Borough Council on designating  Bogota as a " Stigma-Free-Zone"  This is to raise awareness of the problem that people suffering from with  any type of mental illness. The goal is to raise awareness of the disease of mental illness and create a culture wherein residents who have the disease feel supported by their community and neighbors and feel free to seek treatment for the disease without fear of stigma.
  This will start and end at the Picnic Pavilion in Olsen Park. Before the walk a number of speakers will talk about how to assisting those suffering to feel welcomed and equal. This is a free event open to the public .
      They are looking  for six volunteer to assist with this event. Anyone wishing to volunteer will be required to arrive in Olsen Park at 9:00a to help set-up and stay for clean-up.   The Trinity Lutheran Church in Bogota will hold their annual Turkey Drive, to collect Frozen Turkeys & other Non-Perishable food item to be distributed to those families in need this Holiday season. Drop off time is from 9:00a to 1:30p  at the Trinity Church located at 167 Palisade Ave Bogota, NJ. They are working in conjunction with the St .Peter Church in River Edge, NJ. All collected items will be distributed by the Food Bank of New Jersey. For more information please call 201-487-3576.

Bogota 
  The Bogota Public Library will host a workshop for young athletes in Bogota  This will be the first of four Saturday's to encourage Students to learn more about how learning any sport can be beneficial in everyday life. It will be in two separate age groups.  One group for anyone ages from 2-4 will run from 10:30a to 11:00a. The second group will be for ages 5-7 and start at 11:15a to 12:00 noon.    The  Bogota Public library will present the movie "Finding Dory"  This will start at 6:00p and be held in the Seniors Center on the second floor. Admission is free with snacks  and water available for $1.00 with the process going to help fund future Library events.    A workshop in Apple pie making The pie making will start at 6:30p and space is very limited. Everyone participating in the baking must bring their own cookware. They must be a 9" pie pan 3 mixing bowls, measuring cup ans rolling pin .    The Bogota Library will close at 2:00p and be closed for the Thanksgiving weekend. It will open on Monday 28-November with normal  hours.
  All Bogota Public  Schools will have an early dismissal, and be closed for the Thanksgiving  weekend.
  St. Joseph's  will have an early dismissal and be closed for the Thanksgiving Day Weekend 
   The Bogart school will have an 3:00p dismissal, and be closed for the  Thanksgiving  weekend.

Volleyball-               # 1 Bogota will host #32 West Caldwell Tech the 2016 NJSIAA Group 1                                         Tournament  first  round match. This will be played on Wednesday                                              and will take place in Bogota at Speary Gym. It has a  schedule start                                              time of 7:00p.

Saturday-5-Nov
Cross Country-      State Sectional meet at Holmdel Park Holmdel, NJ
Football-                   vs North Arlington at Feigel Field. This will be the Senior Game                                                       with a kickoff schedule for 2:00p

Saturday-12-Nov
Cross Country-   State Group meet at Holmdel Park Holmdel, NJ
