Bogota Sports

30-April-2017

   On Saturday-30-April the Varsity teams from Bogota played those teams from Dwight Englewood school. Both games were part of the Coach vs Cancer event.
  The Men's Baseball Bucs was played at park Ridge. Bogota lost to the Bulldogs by a 3-7 score. Daniel Sanchez,  and Tim Barcon hit doubles for Bogota. While Chris Castillo recorded a Triple. Bogota's record is now 5-6. Their next game is on Tuesday-2-May against Bergen Arts & Science.  This will be play on the Feigel Field Baseball Diamond, with the first pitch scheduled for 4:00p

   The Lady Bucs Softball team played at Park Ridge. Bogota was able to score Runs in the first inning. And another five Runs in the third inning to beat the Lady Bulldogs  11-1. Jayleen Arce, and Madison Heck paced Bogota with a Homer Run apiece. This was Ms.Heck's second straight game with a Home Run.  Ashley Silva, Anna Granquist, and Alyssa Vazquez each hit a double. Ms. Heck, Julia Goni, Alyssa Vazquez, and Jayleen Arce each record 2 RBI's a peice. Bogota's record is now 8-6. The next play on Monday-1-May against Hawthorne Christian Academy. This will be played on Lady Buc Field in Olsen Park with a scheduled 4:00p start.

  The Bogota Public Library is continuing its project to create the Nikki Spiegel Storytime Corner in the Library's main floor. To help off set the cost they have set-up a go fund me page at: https://www.gofundme.com/nikkispiegel.   There will be a dedication and celebration event for  The Nikki Spiegel Storytime Corner on Saturday-6-May starting at 3:00p at the Library located at 375 Larch Ave. Bogota, NJ

 Starting on Thursday-16 March the  Lt William Ryan Bridge will be closed for replacement.   Construction is schedule to take 10 Months to complete.

    The Bogota VFW Post #5561 will host their annual Loyalty Day program.They will award the winners of the "Voice of Democracy" and "Patriot's Pen" essay contest. They will also display the work of  the colouring contest for the younger Students. This will be held in the Main Hall located at 240 Leonia Ave Bogota, NJ. This is open to the Public and  is a free event.  This will take place in the Main Hall and start at 7:00p. There will be a local singing group providing live entertainment and a flag presentation.  Then the winners of the Patriots Pen and "Voice of Democracy" writing competition will be announced.  The winning essays will be read aloud and the writers will be given their awards.

Monday & Wed.-1 & 3-May

 Starting this day the Bogota Public Library will have a members of the Bogota Girls Scout be available for Reading and Tutoring.        The Library will have it's  Teen Advisory Group.  This is  an event open to grades 6-12. Group members will  participate in various activities and interact with peers. Bring your ideas, creativity, and enthusiasm to the table.     The weekly " Meet the Mayor"  event will take place in the office of Mayor Chris Keleman  This is open to any Bogota resident who would to ask the Mayor a question about  Bogota, or to discuss any matter to help improve the quality of life in the Borough. Anyone who wishes just to have an informal conversation with the Mayor is also welcome to attend. Meetings will be held on a first come basis. This will run from 5:00p to 7:00p in the Mayor's office. His office is on in Bogota Borough Hall located at 375 Larch Ave. Bogota, NJ.

This will be an opportunity to  for anyone to who would to like to ask question, or express their own views to  Congressman  Gottheimer staff.  This can also include an chance  to discuss any matter to help improve the quality of life in the Borough and the State of New Jesey, and the Country.    The Bergen County Department of Parks and in collaboration with the Rutgers University Center of Urban Environmental Sustainability will host a series of community meeting   focusing on the Master plan for Bergen County Parks. The first of these meeting will be held at  Two Bergen County Plaza in Hackensack, NJ. This meeting is schedule to start at 7:00p and run until 10:00p. This meeting along with an online survey available at:  http://cues.rutgers.edu/bergen-park-system is part of  a Bergen County effort to improve the Park system.  There will tow addition public meetings on: 
  •   Wednesday, May 10 from 7-10 pm at McFaul Environmental Center in Wyckoff
and 
  • Thursday, May 11 from 7-10 pm at Bergen Community College at the Meadowlands in Lyndhurst

The Bogota  Public Library will host their weekly Fit Club.     Bogota Beautiful will again host their Yoga in the Park classes. These will run every Saturday in May and June. Class will be one hour. These will take place each in Olsen Park and start at 9:00a. Classes will be led by a  Professional Yoga instructor. These classes are open to anyone regardless of age, or  experience.  The classes will meet at the Bandshell in Olsen Park depending on the number of attendees classes may be held in the bandshell or on the lawn in front of the bandshell. Everyone you wishes to attend is required to provide their own mat, towels, and water. Comfortable clothing that will allowed  free and ease of movement  should be worn. This is free to the public, however it is asked to contact  Bogota Beautiful at there website: bogotabeautiful.com to make a reservation for as many dates as you wish.  Bogota Beautiful will also have yoga mats available for purchase if needed  Please also visit the same website for more information or to donate to: bogotabeautiful.com

  The  Bogota Community Garden will start work on the expansion of the current garden. They plan to add 4 more raise planting beds to bring the total to 20. This will require the garden to increase by six feet  along the west side of the garden and by eighteen feet towards the north side. This will allow the garden to have two rows of 10  planting beds each.  The Garden also is seeking to add a number of support structures such as a tool shed, compost area and benches. They are looking for volunteers to assist with the construction of the new space.  Another new feature will be the Bogota Volunteer Fire Dept will be permitted to fill the rain barrels if the supply of water begins to run low. 
    Anyone wishing to reserve at planter for themselves, or as a group should contact the  Bogota Community Garden at: bogotacommunitygarden@gmail.com for information on reserving a bed, and  to learn about the requirement will be to be a part of the garden.

   The Bogota Public Library will honor the Life of Nikki Spiegel on Saturday-6-May.  This will include the formal dedication of the Nikki Spiegel Storytime Corner and the unveiling of the " Nikki Tree".  This will be a chance for members of the Community to share, listen, and remember the Life and works of Nikki Spiegel. The ceremony will start at 3:00p at the Bogota Public Library located at 375 Larch Ave. Bogota, NJ.  This will be a remembrance of  the work Ms Spiegel has done in affecting the lives of the Student of Bogota. She served as the Library's Director of  the Children's Program for fifteen years and showed the importance, and pleasure  reading and learning to many generations of Bogota Student. During this event, a tree build combining two of Ms Spiegel favorite passions of reading and nature, will be unveiled to become a place of quiet reading and learning within the Library.

The Steen School PTO will host their fifth annual "Tricky-Tray" fundraiser event. This will  take place at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Ridgefield Park.  Proceeds from this event will go to help fund the Steen PTO. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door.  Admission includes a buffet dinner along with refreshments and desserts. A cash bar will be available.
