On Wednesday-19-April Bogota Beautiful held its April Board Meeting. The main topic discussed was their upcoming Third annual Earth Day Clean-up. This will take place on Saturday-22-April starting at 10:00a. and start at the Bogota Recreation Center located at 162 W. Main St. Access to the Rec Center will remain open during the replacement of the Lt Ryan Bridge. This year they are scheduling to work on the West Main St Business district, including spring maintenance of the street planters there. Other areas for beautification will include the World War I Memorial at W. Ft. Lee rd and River rd. Here they plan to remove the old growth vegetation & add fresh plantings. Clean the Memorial itself, while installing a path from the sidewalk , along will have solar power lighting to highlight the area. Another project is to work on the Bogota Community Garden. This will be removing items left over from last season and preparing it for the expansion on Saturday-6-May. The final project is a clean-up of the creek at the southern end of Elm Ave at the intersection of River Rd. Bogota Beautiful is accepting sign-ups for anyone wishing to be a Volunteer on this day. The number of Volunteers that sign up will help them plan how many areas will be work on that day. They are also accepting donations of any equipment to help with the clean up. Gloves, hats, racks, shoves, broom, or any other type of lawn equipment will be accepted. They are also looking for anyone who has their own power equipment to Volunteer their services on that day. Anyone with tillers, leaf blowers, power washers and cordless mowers would be welcome. Bogota Beautiful is also interested in any business who would be able donate refreshment for the Volunteers. Water, snack, fruit, and Sandwiches are the primary need to feed the Volunteers going on a late spring afternoon. High School and College Student will be awarded community service credit for volunteering for this event. Other Agenda items discuss was setting a date for their "FUNraise for Heart"event. This will take place on Saturday-27-May from 10:00a to 2:00p. and will be held in Olsen Park. This will be a benefit for the American Heart Association in order to promote health and wellness. Activities will range from Jump Rope and other sports, to a walk along the Olsen Park Environmental walkway and chair yoga. Process will go to American Heart Association to assist their research in fighting Heart Disease. Anyone wishing to take part may start their own team , or joining the Bogota Beautiful team by signing on at: FUNraiser/ team Bogota Beautiful.
Some future events were agreed on at this meeting are starting a joint effort between Bogota Beautiful and the Bogart Memorial Church. The first event will be an outdoor movie night in July. The second is planning a block party at the end of August.
