New Director

17-December-2017
On Monday-11-December  the Bogota Public Library welcomed their new director to her first day on her new job. Chelsea Dodd Coleman formerly from the Montclair Public Library, where she served as Head of Adult Services since 2013.  She has background in public relations and marketing communications.  Ms Coleman earned her M.L.I.S. from Drexel University and B.A. in communication from Seton Hall University. She saw an opportunity in Bogota  to take advantage of a  smaller library where she can have more impact and develop closer relationships with the community.
"I'm thrilled at the opportunity to use my skills and enthusiasm for public service to find news ways to offer traditional and modern library services. And I'm eager to begin embedding myself within the Bogota community so that I can serve as your librarian to the fullest capacity."  Ms. Coleman's  goal is to help bring  more energy to the public library by employing modern technologies and expanding community outreach.
One service that she looks forward to expanding in Bogota is literacy programming. Nearly 30% of residents in Bogota speak English "less than very well" according to Census data, so English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) is a high priority for me. There is also room to grow our early literacy, digital literacy and information literacy instruction to ensure we're serving the needs of every demographic in the Borough.
