On Thursday-1-January, the Bogota Borough Council held their annual Sine-Die and reorganization meeting. This took place in the second floor Senior Center. The first part was to close all unfinished business and payments for 2025.
When the Sine-Die was adjourned the reorganization session was called into order. First Bergen County Clerk Mr. John Hogan announced that Bergen County Board of Elections certified the results. He declared the winners of the 2025 General Election for Bogota Council. They are:
Councilman John Mitchell with 1,699 votes and Councilman Patrick McHale with 1,669 votes. Both were re-elected to a three-year term which expires at the end of December 2028. Mr. Hogan then presented each Councilmen a Certificate of Election.
Next both Men were sworn in separately by New Jersey State Senator Mr. Gordon Johnson. This was followed by Bergen County Executive Mr. James Tedesco presenting both Councilmen a Certificate of Commendation, in recognition on their re-election as members of Bogota Council. Executive Tedesco also presented each Councilmen tokens of appreciation for their service to the citizens of Bogota.
Then Bogota Mayor Daniele Fede gave a summary of the past year in the Borough, and some of the goals for the Council in 2026.
After a brief recess, the meeting was called back to order. This started with the hearing of Citizens.
Then the Council voted for a Council President for 2026. Councilwoman Lisa Kohles was unanimously voted to serve a second term as Council President. She was sworn in by New Jersey Assemblywoman Ms. Shama Haider. Then Mayor Daniele Fede appointed Councilman Mitchell as a member of the Planning Board. She also appointed Councilman McHale as the Police Commissioner for 2026. Councilman McHale was sworn in by Mayor Fede. Other appointments approved were for Government Boards and Committees including the Boards for Planning and Zoning, Board of Health, and Library. Committees were Recreation, Environmental, Creative Arts Team and the Bogota Green Team.
After this the Council voted on the Consent Agenda. This was passed by unanimous vote. Items of note were:
-The appointments were for the Borough professionals, along with the meeting and holiday schedules.
-To approve the agreement the between the Boroughs of Bogota and Paramus for share services for the maintenance and repairs of vehicles in 2026.
The next regular Council meeting will be held on Thursday-15-January starting at 7:30p. It is scheduled to be held in the Council Chambers located on the second floor of 375 Larch Ave Bogota, NJ. For more information please visit: https://www.bogotaonline.org/
