Bogota Football

22-Sept. 2012
The Bogota Bucs had a 37-13 victory over the Park Ridge Owls today at Feigel Field. The Bucs got a balanced scoring attack from their offense. Gordon Kohles still scored three touch down, but two of them came on passes to Max Robbins, and to Austin Bautista. Edwin Fiscal added two short runs for touch downs with Juan Cabrea adding  a field goal towards the end of the first half. Bogota lead the game after two quarters 24-7, then kept the defensive presser on Park Ridge limited them to only one other T.D. in the second half, as well as a pass interception in the endzone stopping a Owls scoring drive.
The win puts Bogota's record 2-1 for the season, while being 2-0 in league play. Their next game is Friday 28- Sept. at Weehawken, with the kick-off at 7:00p

Bogota Volleyball

19-Sept-2012
For the second time in two weeks the Lady Bucs faced- offed against the Blue Eagles of Immaculate heart Academy. Again the the match went to three sets, and unfortunately  for Bogota the outcome was the same, with IHA scoring a 1-2 (25-15: 22-25: 20-25) victory. In the first set the Lady Bucs spurred on by the weekend tournament win, and a large and vocal crowd at Speary Gym. Bogota ran out to an early lead, and kept the presser on IHA through -out the set. The second set, and third, sets were more of what was to be excepted of  a match of this quality. Bogota had a small lead to start the set, but IHA continued to kept the Lady Bucs in reach. When Bogota took a lead the Blue Eagles can back to tie. And when a tie was achieved, Bogota would take back the lead. When IHA finally pulled ahead they moving forward, as it was Bogota turn to keep up. The biggest lead of the middle set was that of the final point in the match. The third set was, again, a heavy- weight bout of two strong teams. IHA took an lead, with the Lady Bucs coming back. Long volleys, and hard play by both teams kept it an enjoyable match to watch. The deciding factor was that IHA was able to limit the number of errors, and hurry the play to keep Bogota from getting enough time to set. The Lady Bucs had a number of fouls giving IHA the points and possession of the ball, this lead IHA servers Caitlyn Floyd, & Kerry McCullagh to slowly build -up their lead. While on defense the Blue Eagles forward line work together to contain Carly O'Sullivan.
In the end it was the hard work of one team, and outlasted the hard work of the other team. This was the only scheduled meeting between the two teams, but both should feel that the next chapter is in the future, with one knowing the history , and the other needing to change it.

Five Questions

17-Sept.-2012
The Bogota Lady Bucs Volleyball team lost their opening season tournament to Immaculate Heart Academy. Since then they have gone undefeated in league play, as well as sweeping to a a victory in the Northern Valley Tournament over the weekend. Bogota Blog NJ had a chance to the Girls Volleyball coach Brad DiRupo for thoughts on the young season.
Coach DiRupo is the Athletic Director at Bogota High School. He also coaches the Girls Softball team in the Spring. Coach DiRupo started to coach the Girls Volleyball team in 2007, and going in this season the Lady Bucs have a record of 65-14-0. Always a strong contender in Volleyball the Lady Bucs under Coach DiRupo have won 3 of the 4 school's North 1 Group 1 titles. This includes their back to back championship for the 2010 & 2011 season.
The  Lady Bucs next game is this Wed. 19-Sept.in Speary gym against IHA starting at 4:30p
Bogota Blog NJ
 - Do you feel  the team had any extra motivation in the run-up to this tournament after losing to IHA at the beginning of the season?
Coach DiRupo
We played very well on Saturday and actually played well all week. The players were not happy with their performance in losing in the Paramus Tour. finals.  So they really focused on our mistakes which led to our Northern Valley Championship.
Bogota Blog NJ
 - Does the fact they did play in a tournament keep the team from looking ahead to IHA, and stay focus on playing one team at a time?
Coach DiRupo
We don’t ever look ahead. Our job is to be the best player we can be whether in practice, tournament, or a match. We take it one day at a time.
Bogota Blog NJ
 - What can you do to keep the team from getting too tired from having to play on three straight days?
Coach DiRupo
We do a lot of physical conditioning so playing three in a row does not bother us.
Bogota Blog NJ
 - What is the best thing thing you see in your team at the start of the season?
Coach DiRupo
Happy with the team at this point.
Bogota Blog NJ
- Is there any thing the the team needs to improve on as the season moves along?
Coach DiRupo
As long as we continue to grow as a team we will have a shot to achieve our team goals.
