Board of Education

 21-September-2023

On Tuesday 19-September the Bogota Board of Education held its regular meeting for September. In his reports section Superintendent Mr. Damain Kennedy presented an update on improvements that will be financed by the 2022 referendum. He started with a new Feigel Field which will have turf surface, running track and lighting, so it can be used for multiple sports. The existing stands will be moved to a new location, and the current field house will remain the same. A new entrance plaza and service building will be constructed. This new building will house a concession stand, training room, and equipment storage. In Olsen Park a new Varsity Softball and Baseball will be created. Since this is on Borough property the District has been asked that these field will remain with natural grass and dirt. They will also have lights for evening games.
Superintendent Kennedy answered some questions by saying the all the field lighting will be on a timer and are designed to have less light spillage to local homes. The projected timeline for Feigel Field construction is to start in March of 2024 with an opening for the fall season in September of 2024. This is based on approval from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and the bidding process. The ball fields in Olsen Park are schedule to start in June of 2024 with a September of 2024 opening. There is also planned walking trail to connect with the current walkway around Olsen Park. This new trail extent along the Hackensack River to the Swim Club parking lot.

In Bixby School there will be new and realigned Bathrooms in order to service each grade and allow more bathrooms for Pre-school and Kindergarten Students. The timeline for the High School bathrooms to start in June of 2024 and be ready for the opening of the 2024-25 school year.
For Bixby School to renovate and re-alignment of 7 classrooms will start in June of 2024 and be ready for the opening of the 2024-25 school year. The CTE building will start interior renovation in January 2024 with an opening in December of 2024.
When all the renovations are completed, the District wants a re-alignment of the grades in the District. This would be to have the E.Roy Bixby School used for the Pre-School classes up to second grade. The Lillian M. Steen School will have Students from third grade to sixth grade. The Bogota Middle School will be used for seventh and eighth grade Students. Bogota High School will become a full-time high school with Student from ninth to twelve grades.
