Board of Education

 8-February-2023
   On Tuesday-7-February the Bogota Board of Education held their first meeting of the Month. In his Superintendent's reports Mr. Damien Kennedy first asked the Student Ms. Valerie Brito. She gave a quick summary of the Varsity Sports program and mentioned the upcoming school Musical.  
   In his report Superintendent Kennedy said approximately 400 people have taken part in the District's meeting about the upcoming Referendum. This is for both in-person and on-line meetings. He added that future PTO meeting will again be available on-line. There will be a second full townhall meeting with date and time to be announced.  Superintendent Kennedy confirmed that the Tuesday-14-March polling date will still be a half day for the District's School.  The two buildings used as polling places, Bogota High School and Bixby School will have extra security and be arranged to limit the contact with the Students and voters in the morning.  Polls will be open at their regular hours starting at 6:00a to 8:00p.
 Then the Board moved to consider Agenda items. Most resolutions will be officially voted on at the next Board Meeting. Two items needed to be voted on at this meeting. The first was to approve the submission of two Bond Questions to go before the resident of Bogota on Tuseday-14-March. The second was to approve Mr. Dean Straut as a Mathematics Teacher for the remainder of the 2022-23 school year.

The next Board of Education meeting will be Tuesday-28-February at 7:00p. This will take place in person at the Bogota High School Cafeteria located on the second floor of 2 Henry Luthin Pl. Bogota, NJ and online. This meeting is open to the Public.

Weekend Sports

Results from Bogota Varsity sports from the weekend of Saturday-4-February.

   The Bogota/Ridgefield Park Scarlets-Bucs took place in a Quad-Meeting at West Milford. They competed against the host team St. Mary's and Dumont. They would lose to West Milford by a score of 61-15. Dorien Gaiter at 175 lbs. and Derek Martinez at 215 lbs. would score Pin Falls. Bogota/Ridgefield Park defeated the Gaels by a score of 72 to 6. Of the 13 Bouts scheduled 6 took place. Scarlets-Bucs Daniel Villa at 120 lbs., Daniel Tobin at 150 lbs., Derek Martinez at 215 lbs., Carlos Castellon at 285 lbs., and Theresa Zeppetelli at 106 lbs. all won by Pin Falls.  Against the Dumont Huskies they posted a 45 to 30 win. 13 out of the 14 Bouts scheduled took place.  Jaden Rodriguez at 126 lbs., Dean Sinisgalli at 132 lbs., Daniel Tobin at 150 lbs., Derek Martinez at 215 lbs. Carlos Castellon at 285 lbs. Josh Gesmundo at 165 lbs. had a 2-1 decision. Their record is now 13-6.  Their next competition is Monday-6-February in the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association North I Group IV Sectional Tournament against Morris Knolls.  This will be held in Ridgewood scheduled to start at 6:00p 
  The Men's Basketball Bucs played the Ridgefield Park Scarlets in the Bergen Invitational Tournament at Ridgewood. Ridgefield Park would have an 11 to 8 lead at the end of the first quarter.  Before Halftime Bogota even the score at 28 all. After the restart the Scarlets again moved themselves ahead 42 to 39. In the final minutes the Bucs scored one more point than their opposition to secure a 55 to 54 win. Bogota's RJ Asencio had a team high with 21 Points. Mr. Asencio and Evan Abreu finished with a team high of 2 Three Point Baskets. Ridgefield Park's Erind Kukaj lead all scorers with 23 Points including 4 Three Point Baskets. Bogota's record is now 6-14. They next are scheduled to play on Tuesday-7 February at Emerson starting at 7:00p

Bogota Borough Council

 5-February-2023

 On Thursday-4-February the Bogota Borough Council held their first meeting for the month of February. All resolutions on the consent agenda were passed by unanimous votes. Other resolutions approved was to hire Mr. James Morre as a part time Senior Bus Drive. This is contingent on his application for a Commercial Driver's License (CDL).  Also approved was to allow for the Bogota Recuse Squad to conduct a fund-raising boot drive on Saturday-29-April from 8:00a to 4:00p. Rain date is scheduled for Saturday-6-May. Another approval was to move the starting times of the Council meeting time to 7:00p. This will take affect for the next Council Meeting on Thursday-16-February. Durning the Council reports it was mentioned that there will be an official Borough Celebration of Ramadan on Wednesday-22-March. Time and other details will be announced at a later date. It was also announced the Borough has received a A-1 debt rating. This is the highest rating that Standard & Poor's issues for short-term debt, which allows burrows a lower interest rate on loans.
  The next regular Borough Council meeting will be held on Thursday-16-February starting at 7:00p. It is scheduled to be held in the Council Chambers located on the third floor of 375 Larch Ave Bogota, NJ.  For more information please visit: https://www.bogotaonline.org/
