Library Fund Drive

30-November-2018
  In Early November of 2018 the Bogota Public Library kicked -off their annual Fund Raising Campaign. Their goal for this year is to raise at least $8,000.00 to help the Library continue their Service to the Borough of Bogota. On Thursday 29- November they passed the  $3300.00 mark in donations made. Bogota Student Amani helped move the thermometer closer to their goal. This campaign will continue until 31-December-2018. 
  The Bogota Public Library was started in 1909 as the Bogota Book Club. On 22-March-1915 the Bogota Public Library was officially incorporated. On 21-May-1989 the present Library building was dedicated at 375 Larch Ave. This included the Senior Centre on the second floor. The Library moved into their new location after using two room in Bogota Borough  Hall.
  The Library's collection  has grown from the original 2,000 volumes, to over 56,000 items in print, audio, visual, and electronic forms. The Bogota Library also offers over 900 free programs each year in a large variety of interests.  These range from reading and writing program starting with the youngest Students, to those wanting to learn English as a second language.  There are many crafts and learning workshops for every age group.  Lectures, Gallery Shows on a diverseness topics.

Re-accreditation

29-November-2018
   On Tuesday-27-November St. Joseph's School in  Bogota held a dinner to welcome the review committee from Middle States Association Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools. The MSA-CESS is a national organization that promote guidelines to schools so they can achieve excellence in both teaching and learning.
   St Joseph's School  was initially awarded Accreditation from the Middle States Commissions Elementary and Secondary Schools in May 2001. They  then earned Re-Accreditation in November of 2011. They are now being review for a second Re-Accreditation for 2018.  This Accreditation will be valid for the next seven years. 
    At this presentation there was a number of performance, but the Students, to highlight the Artistic achievement available at St. Joseph's. Then, to explain more about what it is like to  attend St. Joseph's School, speeches were give by Teachers, Parents, and Students emphasizing the benefits offer at St. Joseph's.  Along with  how the educational experience at St. Joseph's has help the growth of the Students who are attending the school, and how Alumni of the school have excelled after graduating from St. Joseph's.
  The review committee from the MSA-CESS  will also spend the rest of the week observing the teaching in all the classes available. This will include the Pre-School grade up to and including 8th Grade. The review committee will also talk to the Students, their Parents, about what is the experience like to be educated at St. Joseph's. There will also be interviews with Faculty  and Staff  on what improvements and changes have been made in the last ten years to allow St. Joseph's to give the Student the best academic experience as possible.
Re-Accreditation will be finalized in the spring.

Some events scheduled to take place in and around Bogota, for the weekend starting on Thursday-29-November. Times and dates may change due weather or other circumstances. Please contact the event for the most up to date information.  More events will be added when they become available.

  Starting on Sunday-1 July-2018 the Borough of Bogota will change the ordnance in what can be recycled. Bottle & cans recycling pick-up the Borough of Bogota will now be limited to: Aluminium, Glass, Bi-metal/Tin cans. Aluminium foils and pie plates will be accepted but must be clean. Plastic Containers with the symbol  1, 2, or 5  only  will also be accepted.   All recyclable material must be placed in  reusable trash receptacles.  Items places in plastic bag will not be collected. Paper and cardboard recycling remains unchanged.
   The  collectible the products that have been removed from the accepted list will now be accepted by The Borough of Bogota in cooperation with the Ridgefield Park  environmental commission and collected in a separate way. The Trex Corporation has provided bins to accept the following item. Grocery bags, bread bags, case overwrapping, dry cleaning bags, newspaper sleeves, ice bags, wood pellet bags, zip lock & other re-seal able bags, produce bags, bubble wrap, salt bags, and cereal bags. All  recyclable materials must be clean, dry and free of food residue. For every 500 pounds of plastic collected the Trex Corporation will donate a new park bench, made from recycled materials. The benches will be donated to both Bogota and Ridgfield Park on a rotating basis. As of now a Trex collection bin is in the lobby of the Bogota Borough Hall and  the Bogota Public Library can be accessed  during  regular business hours. More bins are planned for other locations in the future.
  The collection day under the new rules will be Thursday-5-July (due to the Fourth of July Holiday) Then every other Wednesday.

October to December
    Monday-1- October will be the start of Leaf Season. Home Owners are allowed to place raked, leaves and grass cutting  in the street , along the curb, in front of their residents.  It is ask that the piles be placed in such a way as not to interfere with traffic, and away from storm sewers and drain to prevent flooding , or other water build-up. Leaf Season is schedule to end on Monday -17- December after that date all yard waste must be placed in brown leaf bags for pick-up.

  The next Graphic novel club will meet at 3:30p in the second floor Senior Centre.    The Bogota Drama Club will present their Annual Musical of  " A Fairy Tale Christmas Carol " This will take place in the Bogota High School Auditorium. Curtain time for both evening performances is 7:00p Tickets are available at the door priced at $7.00 for Adults and $5.00 for Students and Seniors.  There will also be a Family Matinee on Saturday-1-December  with a curtain time of 1:00p. The Bogota Volunteer  Fire Dept will hold it's annual Chief's Election starting at 7:00p. This will be held in the Seniors Center located on the second floor  at 375 Larch Ave. Bogota, NJ. This is when a new Fire Chief will be appointed for the year 2018, and awards to members of the Bogota Volunteer Fire Dept for their outstanding performance in 2017. This is open to the Public.

The Bogota Public  Library will have their Youth's Sewing Club meeting.  This is  open to  Students ages 9-18.  This will teach anyone the art of sewing. There will be a chance to learn machine, and hand sewing as well as shown different project and types of material.  Starting on Monday-26- February the main parking lot and front entrance to Bogota High School will be closed. This is due to the reconstruction of the Parking lot. Work is scheduled to continue until First week of September-2018.   All access to the High School will be through the side door on the North side of the building.
