VFW rehab

31-March-2014

  Rebuilding Together Bergen County is sponsoring a National Rebuilding Day event at the Bogota VFW. The project will renovate the lower hall to improve it for rentals. We need volunteers skilled and unskilled for prep day Sat. 12 -April  and the on National Rebuilding Day Sat.26-April. More work will be done. They hope to refurbish the floors, walls as well as replace the lighting in the lower hall.   NVE Bank has already contributed $6000.00  to this project  Other donations of water, soda, snacks, baked goods or Shoprite or Dunkin Donuts gift cards will go a long way. All gifts are tax deductible.  Volunteers are needed for both days. The work day is scheduled to be from 8:00a to 4:00p on both days. Breakfast & Lunch will be provide on both days as well.

   The Bogota Borough Council will hold their regular council meeting and work session starting at 7:30p. It is scheduled to be in the Council Chambers located on the second floor of the Bogota Borough at 375 Larch Ave. Bogota, NJ. This meeting is open to the Public.




4-5 April
Bogota
  The Bogota High School performance of   "Seussical the Musical" will take place on Friday & Saturday 4th & 5th of April. Those show will start at 7:30p with ticket at $8.00 for Adults & $6.00 for Students and Seniors. There will be a matinee on Sat. 5-April with a 1:00p curtain with all tickets being priced at $6.00.   The Steen PTO will be hosting a Salsa Night at the Ridgefield Park Elks Club. This will start at 7:00p and go until 11:00p. There will be an instruction on the basic of  Salsa. There will be dancing , raffles, and appetizers. Along with a cash Bar. This will be an Adults only event with  tickets for $20 per person,  $35 per couple along with discounts available for tables of 8 or 10. Tickets for this event will not be available at the door.The Elks Club is located at 1506 Spruce Ave. Ridgefield Park, NJ. Safety Award

27- March-2014
   Bogota Blog NJ has been informed that the Borough of Bogota has won the 2013 Gold award from South Bergen Municipal Joint Insurance Fund. This is the top safety award given by the 27 members of the SBJIF. The following statement was sent to Bogota Blog NJ by Bogota Borough Amministor August Greiner:  

  As of, this morning the Borough of Bogota was awarded the top safety award for 2013, the Gold Award at the annual South Bergen Municipal Joint Insurance Fund meeting at the Stony Hill Inn.  Bogota edged out 27 municipalities to win the top award which comes with a $2,000.00 check.  The Borough also received the award for 50% reduction in loss time accidents for 2013.  This award comes with a $500.00 check.  I would like to thank my “Bogota Safety Team” made up of all our borough department heads led by DPW Superintendent Gordon Kohles who worked very hard last year to bring our injury losses down and increase our safety awareness and in turn win these two top awards.

Police Unity Tour

   The Bogota- Ridgefield Park riders of the Police Unity Tour had a fundraising event at the 101 Pub in Bogota on Monday Night. They were raising money for the 2014 Unity Rider which will start in E. Hanover, NJ, in the target Parking lot. They will arrive in Washington DC on 12-May and be apart of a Candlelight ceremony on 13- May at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial located at  E St & 5th St. NW Washington DC. At the event Carl Martin announced that the Bogota -Ridgefield Park team will dedicate Sgt Keith Ferguson of the NYPD. Sgt Ferguson End of Watch came on 31- January -2004. members of the team meet Sgt. Ferguson's Family at another event a told them they would ride in his honour this year.  Donations  to the Police Unity Tour will be accepted at the Bogota, or Ridgefield Park  Police stations.
  The Police Unity Tour was started in 1997 in Florham Park, NJ with 18 riders in order to raise awareness of follow Offices killed in the line of duty, and to help raise fund for the families of fallen Officers.  It now has over 1700 members worldwide and works with National Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial and Museum in Washington DC.   The Bogota - Ridgefield Park chapter of the Police Unity Tour will be holding a fundraising event at the 101 Pub in Bogota, NJ. This is in order to raise money for the National Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial and Museum in Washington DC. The event will run from 6:00p to 10:00p.   The Bogota Public library will be having a showing of the movie Frozen, at the Senior Center on the second floor of the Library. The Movie will start at 6:00p and admission is free. Snacks will be available for purchase at $1.00 each.   The Hackensack Regional Chamber of Commerce is holding their 7th annual Indoor Moonlight Picnic on Wed. 26- March from 6:00p to 9:00p This will be held at the Moose Lodge located at 215 Charles St. in Hackensack, NJ.  This will be an evening of Picnic Fare and a chance to network with others. There will be prizes for the best Picnic Attire, along with games. A cash Bar will be available, and proceeds go to benefit Educational Scholarships. The cost is $35 in advance and is required by Wed. 19 -March  This is open to members as well as non-members of the Chamber of Commerce.   The Bogota Green Team, along with the Bogota Environmental Commission  will be giving away tree saplings  on Saturday 29- March. The gift of these trees is made possible by the NJ tree Recovery Campaign to help restores trees that have been damaged, or fallen from the affects of Hurricane Sandy. These tree will be given away on a first come, first serve basis. They will be distributed at the Olsen Park picnic shelter near the Recreation Center. It will begin at 10:00a and go until 12:00. Potting soil and guidelines will be given along with the tree. The trees will be distributed free of charge to Bogota resident. The Bogota Green Team will also be planting some trees in Olsen Park, and is looking for Volunteers to help. Olsen Park is located at 162 W.Main St. Bogota, NJ. The Bergen County  Historical Society will be have a clean-up of the grounds at New Bridge Landing
The Building and Grounds Committee will be hosting a "Spring Cleaning" on March 29th from 8 am to 11 am(weather permitting). This work will occur outdoors so bring gloves and boots. We'll be tackling the removal of non-native plants and cleaning up the site for a busy event season. What was Bergen County like in 1664? The Bergen County Historical Society celebrates the Lenape New Year, Chwame Gischuch, at Historic New Bridge Landing, 1201-1209 Main Street, River Edge, NJ 07661 on Sunday, March 30, 2014, from 1 to 5 pm.
Historian Kevin Wright will speak on the Peach War of 1655 at 1:30 & 3:30 pm in the Steuben House.
Throughout the afternoon, Bob Wills, of the Sunrise Trading Post, will share his knowledge of Lenape foods, herbs and customs, showing and selling reproduction trade items.
The first Dark Moon after the Long Moon marks the arrival of Chwame gischuch, the Shad Moon, and the New Year of the ancient Sanhicans and Minisinks, locally known as the Hackensacks and Tappans. Native peoples returned from their winter villages, gathering at the narrows of the great streams in places such as Acquackanonck (Garfield) and Aschatking (New Bridge), to set their fykes and weirs and catch smelt and shad as these fish ran up the rivers in great numbers.

All 3 Jersey-Dutch Houses will be open, connected by a gravel walking path. Parking available or take a train on the Pascack Valley Line from Secaucus via NJ Transit to the New Bridge Landing Train stop.

$7 adult, $5 children, BCHS members free.
