Primary Elections for 2024

   Primary Elections for 2024 in the State of New Jersey will take place on Tuesday-4-June. The polls will be opening at 6:00a. and will remain open until 8:00p.                     
  Voting for the 2024 New Jersey Primary Elections may be done in three ways.
- At the local polling station. (for locations see below)
- By Mail Ballots. Deadline to apply for a mail in ballot is Tuesday-28-May-2024. Ballots must be postmarked on or before Tuesday-4-June-2024. Or placed in a secure Ballot Box no later than 8:00p on Tuesday-4-June-2024. Secure drop boxes will be set-up in 32 Bergen County Communities. The closest to Bogota are in Hackensack, NJ at One Bergen County Plaza, this is the main county Administration Building. Another is in Teaneck, NJ at 818 Teaneck Rd, this will be located at the North entrance of the Township Municipal Building. Ballot Drop Boxes are available 24-hours. Ballots must be in the Drop Box by 8:00p on election night. Ballots left after 8:00p on election night will be considered late and not counted. Drop boxes will be under 24-hour security and surveillance. Representatives from both major parties will oversee the collecting, and delivery of ballots from Drop Boxes.
-In-Person early voting. Locations are open from Wednesday-29-May -2024 to Sunday-2-June-2024. Weekdays earlier voting locations are open from 10:00a to 8:00p. On Saturday  and Sunday, they are open from 9:00a to 1:00p. There are 9 Early Voting locations. The closest ones to Bogota are in Hackensack, NJ at One Bergen County Plaza, this is the main county Administration Building on the 5th floor public meeting room. Or in Teaneck at the Richard Rodda Center located at 250 Colonial Court.

The Primary Election will be on Tuesday-4-June-2024 with the polls opening at 6:00a and remaining open until 8:00p.
The Public schools of the Bogota Board of Education will be open for a half day to allow for voting. 
Officers will be assigned to prove security in building used as polling stations.

-- For Districts 1& 6 it is the Bogota Recreation Center at 162 W. Main St.
   Districts 1&6 is that part of the Borough located West of the Railroad tracks.
-- For Districts 2&3 it is the Gym of Bogota High School at 1 Henry Luthin Pl.  please use the door towards the back of the building on the North side of the building.
  Districts 2& 3 is that part of the Borough located East of the Railroad tracks & North of Beechwood Ave
-- For Districts 4&5 it is in the Gym of the Roy Bixby School at Maplewood & Fischer Aves.

Academy Orientation

   On Friday and Saturday-24 & 25-May, the Bogota Junior Police Academy (BJPA) held an orientation meeting for Parents to learn about the upcoming Academy  starting in July of 2024. The meeting was led by Academy Director Det. Michael LaFerrera, Sgt. Devin Rivera, and Assistant Ms. Elizabeth Weiskus. They introduced themselves and talked about the Bogota Junior Police Academy. Det. LaFerrera said that the goal is to teach and train Bogota Middle School Students in life skills, physical training, and to learn about the work involved as a member of the Emergency services units in Bogota.
  Det. LaFerrera announced the academy will start on Friday- 19-July and will continue to Tuesday-30-July,  A Cadet’s Duty Day will run from 07:30 to 14:30, with a lunch break. Friday-26-July will be a special training day. The Duty Day will start at Bogota High School, with a number of off campus activities scheduled. During a Duty Day, the Cadets will have classroom education, emergency services presentations/hands on activities, physical training, scuba training and team building activities. While providing the encouragement to let the Cadet grow both Physically and Personally. Sgt. Rivera added if the Cadets returned home tired (or very tired) but eager to return to class the next day the Academy has met part of their goals. Graduation will be Tuesday-29-July at Bogota High School with the time to be confirmed.
  Det. LaFerrera announced the academy will start on Friday- 19-July and will continue to Tuesday-30-July,  A Cadet’s Duty Day will run from 07:30 to 14:30, with a lunch break. Friday-26-July will be a special training day. The Duty Day will start at Bogota High School, with a number of off campus activities scheduled. During a Duty Day, the Cadets will have classroom education, emergency services presentations/hands on activities, physical training, scuba training and team building activities. While providing the encouragement to let the Cadet grow both Physically and Personally. Sgt.   Then the meeting focus on the importance of the Cadets Family. This includes returning signed forms so the Cadets can attend the special events. Assist in helping a Cadet to bring a healthy cold lunch for every Duty Day. Helping the Cadet to have a clean uniform ready for the next morning. Along with reminding the Cadet what is allowed, and banned, from the Academy.
  Parents were told that each Cadet will receive two uniforms, both will be worn every Duty Day. Other items that will be provided will be a Backpack, Water bottle, Note pads and pencils, along with a Personal Hygiene kit. The Academy will also supply healthy snack and hydration liquids.
  Also mentioned was that Jewelry, Make-up, and nail polish will not be allowed on Duty Day. What type of undergarments should be worn, and other specialize clothing that may be needed. All cellphones will be secured upon starting a Duty Day. Any needed medication, with instructions, will be held by the Academy’s Medic. Det. LaFerrera gave his cell number to the Parents so he can be reached in case of emergencies. He also asked that the contact information is correct in case he needs to contact a Parent.
  Then the staff talked about the most important job of the Parent, this is to be fully supportive of the Cadet. Encourage them to talk about how there day went. Their feelings on being in the Academy, and what is planned for the next day. Helping them prepare for what will happen next and allowing the Cadet to make their own choices. And to celebrate their Graduation Day with as many Families and Friends as possible.
  Det. LaFerrera  then added that there are programs available to assist a Cadet, financially, to attend the Academy. He said that anyone is welcome to sponsor a Cadet, also welcomed is any donation of goods and services that will aid the Academy.
