2014 Year in Review Nov. - Dec.

31- Dec.-2014

   The final section of  the Bogota Year in Review for 2014 contains the months of November & December.

 4- Nov.    In the elections for Bogota Mayor Chris Keleman  won over Tito Jackson. For Council Lisa Kohles & Tom Napolitano won seats on the council.



11- Nov.   The Bogota VFW Ralph Hall post # 5561 held it's Veteran's Day ceremony were  Sean Reilly was named Bogota Citizen of the year.

14 -Nov.   Chris Keleman was officially sworn in as Mayor of Bogota



23- Nov.   Bogota Beautiful added Holiday Lights to their planters on W. Main St.

23- Nov.   The Miss Bogota 2015 Pageant  officially begun with the registration of candidates.

3-Dec.       The Bogota Band Parents held their Wreath sale.

5-Dec        The Bogota High School Fine Arts Dept. presented " Shakespeare Revisited"


6-Dec        The Bogota Volunteer Fire Dept. held their annual Chiefs election were Michael Brophy was named Fire Chief for 2015


.
11-Dec.     Daniele Fede was sworn in a Council Member filling the seat left vacant by the election of Chris Keleman to Mayor of Bogota.



12-Dec     The annual Tree lighting in front of Borough Hall was held
.

12-Dec.    The  Bogota Volunteer Fire Dept responded to an abandoned house fire on Central Ave.


15- Dec    The Bogota Police Emergency Services Youth Academy  premiered  the movie of Class 04

16- Dec    The Miss Bogota 2015 Pageant held a Breakfast with Santa event.


18- Dec    The Bogota High School Music Dept. held their Winter Concert

.
24-Dec     Members of the Bogota Police Dept helped Santa by delivering some presents early.

2014 Year in Review Sept.-Oct.

 The next part of Bogota year in Review 2014  is from September -October.


Sept.        During the Summer Steen Principal Thomas Conroy suddenly announced he was leaving  so that he could take a similar position closer to where he lives. Mr. Conroy stayed on at Steen until a new Principal could be found.


2-Sept       The Bogota Board of Education  voted on additional funds to pay to finish the field house at Fiegel Field & the new Board of Education Offices.

9-Sept      The Bogota Bucs Soccer team played their Inaugural game as the High School newest Varsity* sport. *Most of the games were played as Junior Varsity due to the the program being introduced late in the previous school year.

19-Sept      The Bogota Jr. Football Bucs held their first  Pep Rally at Olsen Park.




20 Sept      Parent & Students of Steen  School Volunteered to clean the grounds of the school.



20-Sept       The Bogota Football Bucs had their first game in the New Fiegel Field featuring new stands, and Field House. Due to problems with a United Water Connection the field house did not have running water until the end of the season.



20-Sept       The end  of the 8th annual St. Joseph Carnival &  the Inaugural running of the St.Joseph's Spirit Race


21-Sept     The Zerbini Family Circus hosted by Bogota Fire Dept. Engine #3 took place in Olsen Park


25-Sept      The new Steen Principal Christine Giancola was introduced to the Parents at Steen's Back to School Night.

26 & 27 Sept.  The annual Night Football games where play at Fiegel Field for the High School & Jr. Bucs

29-Sept     The Bogota Band parent held their annual Town- Wide Garage sale

30-Sept     The new Board of Education Building received a temporary Certificate of Occupancy

2-Oct       The Bogota High School Athletic Dept. retired the #14 jersey worn by Bogota Lady Bucs Volleyball star Carly O'Sullivan. She becomes the second  Bogota athlete, after Pat Sullivan's # 40,  to  be retired.


5 - Oct      The Bogota Green team held their first Green Fair  & shredding event in Olsen Park.


7- Oct       The Borough of Bogota made a prescription drug card available to the resident of the Borough
10-Oct       The Bogota Green Team  was awarded  a bronze certification for their efforts in improving the quality of  life in the Borough

15 -Oct      The Bogota Police announced that the sidewalks in front of 297 Palisade Ave  will be closed to pedestrian traffic as a safety  precaution

18-Oct      Steen School held their second annual Fall Festival in Olsen Park


25- Oct     The Bogota  VFW Post #5561 held a  "Flag Retirement" ceremony in Olsen Park.



25- Oct     The Bogota Boys Cross Squad won their third straight Varsity "D" title.

This Week Events

   Some events happening in and around Bogota for the week starting Monday- 29- Dec.
The Bogota Public Library will be closed on Wednesday 31- Dec. and on Thursday 1-Jan.-2015.
Bogota Borough Hall will be closed on Thursday 1- Jan-2015. Regular recycling pick-up is still scheduled for Wednesday 31- Dec. Borough wide. This pick is for paper & cardboard.

In Bogota Sports ,the Bogota Bucs Boys Basketball team lost their second round game at the Bergen Holiday Festival to River Dell by the score of 42-48. The Bucs again trailed after the first quarter, then dominated the next one to take a 22-14 lead into the half. The third was a closely played quarter with Bogota hanging on to the lead , then River Dell outscored Bogota by  a dozen point to comeback for the win.  The final games in the Tournament will be played on Tuesday 30- Dec with Bogota playing in the seventh place game against Elmwood Park. The tip off is scheduled for 10:00a and will be played at the Dwight -Englewood school in Englewood, NJ



Mon. & Tues.-29 & 30-Dec.

The Bogota Bucs Wrestling Squad will compete in the Bergen County Tournament . The Tournament will start at 9:00a on both days. The Tournament will take place at Rockland Community College in Suffern, NY



Friday- 2-Jan.-2015
Bogota 

  Both the Girls & Boys Basketball team restart their league schedule with games against Bergen Charter School. Both games will be played at home in Speary Gym. The Lady Bucs will play first with the game starting at 5:30p. The Boys team will play the nightcap with a start time  of 7:00p

2014 Year in Review July- August


29-Dec.-2014

   The next segment in a review of the year 2014 in Bogota, NJ. This part covering July to August.

4- July Residents of Bogota gathered in Olsen Park to watch the Fireworks over the Hackensack River.

 


10-July     The Bogota Public Library started  Read with Maggie the Beagle to encourage younger students to read more. This has continued into the school year.

10- July    Work crews from PSE&G started construction on a project to upgrade the electrical network in Bergen County. Work on this project will last into the year 2015

18- July    Volunteer Parents, along with some Student cleaned & painted the  Bixby Playground.



22-July      Class 04 of the Bogota Police Emergency Service Youth Academy held their Graduation after ten days of learning about how First Responders perform their duties.



24- July   Donations from the Bogota Baseball Organization & the Knight of Columbus were presented to the Family of Jeziel Marte to help with his recovery from an accident in the Spring of this year.

28- July   An improved  Summer School for Students of Steen & Bixby Schools it had a longer school day to give more individual attention for Students who attended the program.

August  A number of  construction projects continued in Bogota, including 297 Palisade Ave., The New Field House & Board of Education Office, Sidewalks on Elm Ave , and PSE&G work along River Rd.

8-  Aug     The Bogota Swim Club held their Family Campout at the Bogota Pool.



13-  Aug.  Some changes were finalized over a couple of projects. The gas station at E. Main St & Palisade Ave will now be a combined 7-11 & Valero Gas. Along with the Quik-Check on River Rd to be expanded with a possibility to add  cafe seating & gas pumps.

16-Aug. The fifth annual Adult Swim at the Bogota Pool was dedicated this year to help the family of Ridgefield Park  Police Steven Sulborsky.



18- Aug     Members of the Senior Team of Bogota Junior Bucs Football  team present Jeziel Marte a signed Jersey from his teammates.

25-Aug.   Alumni from all classes of the BPESYA gathered at the Bogota Pool for their  reunion.


30- Aug    Members of the Bogota Green Team, and Bogota Beautiful helped with a Spring cleaning of Steen  School Garden.

2014 Year in Review May-June

  The third part of  the Bogota year in review for 2014. This segment will go cover May & June 2014

1-     May      The Bogota VFW Ralph Hall post # 5571 held their  2014 Loyalty Day celebration.

5-     May      An accident involving a Bixby Student occurred  on the W. Main Extension through Olsen Park.  The Student would recover to graduate with his sixth Grade class. On the same day a bicyclist was struck by a car on Queen Anne Rd.

16-   May      The BACSA had stage a simulation of a drunk driving accident at Feigel Field for the Students of Bogota High School.

26 -  May      Bogota held their annual Memorial Day this year a Platoon of U.S. Marines were able to join in the parade.


30  - May     Bogota’s Jonathan Proffit won the State Group 1 Triple Jump title


1-    June      The Friendship House of North Jersey held their Friendship Walk  in Olsen Park

3-    June     A choice of two Democratic  coalitions  were on the Ballot in the Democratic Primaries. The ticket lead by current Mayor Tito Jackson received the most votes. 

6-    June    The Sixth Grade Classes of both Steen & Bixby school had a Field Day in Olsen Park 


8-    June     The ARC  of Bergen & Passaic held their fundraising walk in Olsen Park. 

8-    June      The group Bogota Beautiful   installed Planters along W. Main St.


23- June      The Third Grade class of Steen School had a field trip to Borough Hall

26- June      Bixby & Steen School held their Sixth Grade Class Graduations . At Bixby Jeziel Marte whose injury from an accident in May  held him out of school was able to graduate with his Classmate 



27-June       The Bogota  High School Class of 2014 held the School’s 88th Commencement  Exercise in a newly Air Conditioned Gym.

28- Dec.-2014
 
  On Saturday 27- Dec The Bogota Lady Bucs Basketball  lost at Mahwah by the score of 25- 70. There next schedule game is on Friday 2- Jan-2015 at Speary Gym. 
   Also on Saturday the Boys Basketball team lost to Westwood 28-45 in the first round of the Bergen Holiday festival at Dwight - Englewood. They were shut out in the first quarter, while giving up 17 points to the Cardinals. The rest of the game was play even with Bogota finishing with the same 17 point defect. They next play River Dell on Sunday at 12:00 noon on the second day of the Tournament to be play at  Dwight - Englewood school in Englewood, NJ.



 The Bogota Bucs Wrestling Squad will compete in the Bergen County Tournament . The Tournament will start at 9:00a on both days. The Tournament will take place at Rockland Community College in Suffern, NY

2014 year in Review March-April

27-Dec.-2014

    The second part of  the Bogota year in review for 2014. This segment will go cover March & April 2014.

4- Mar.    After many weeks parking restrictions were lifted for the entire Borough.

19- Mar.   The Bogota Seniors from the class of 2014 play the Faculty  in a game of Basketball winning 72-69
21- Mar.    The 5th & 6st grade Students at Steen  play their Students vs Faculty games

22- Mar.    The Bogota Police Emergency Services Youth Academy held  a Fundraising dinner for Class 04 of the BPESYA.

24-Mar.   The Bogota- Ridgefield Park chapters of the Police Unity Tour held a Fundraising dinner.


29- Mar.  The Bogota Green team  handed out tree sapling  to Bogota residents as part of Tree recovery campaign for Hurricane Sandy.

4- Apr.      Bogota High School presented the Musical “Seussical” as their spring show.

6- Apr.      Two new business opened on W. Main St.  Meffashion  at 56 W. Main Magiamos  taking over Mona Lisa Pizza  The joined the Robert Wilkens Agency  who moved into 52 W. Main earlier in the Year.

11- Apr.   The Bogota Police Dept. Held a Community meeting to inform the Residents of some  items of importance to the Borough. It was also used as a chance to explain the parking restriction  caused by the snow storms.

12- Apr.   The Bogota Recreation Commission hosted it's annual Easter Egg Hunt in Olsen Park.



23-Apr.    The rebuilding of the sidewalks continued on Elm Ave.  This was done with a grant from Bergen County.

24-Apr.    Mayor Tito Jackson  starts a weekly “ Meet the Mayor” open to all resident of the Bogota to have a one on one meeting with the Mayor.

26- Apr.    The Bogota VFW Post 5561 Headquarters  had a renovation of it’s Lower Banquet Hall and Kitchen  with help of   Rebuilding Together  Bergen County &  local 164 of the IBEW.
