Spring Concert 2022

  On Friday-20-May the Bogota High School Fine Arts Department held their Spring Concert of 2022. This would be the final stage performance by band Direction of Mr Barry McCann. After over two decades of teaching music,  leading the Bogota Marching Buccaneer Band, the Bogota High School Concert and Jazz Bands  and being the Head of the Fine Arts Department he is retiring at the end of this current school year. The program started with the Concert Band under the Direction of Mr Barry McCann. They played a variety of songs. Before the final number, the Senior band members took a moment to thank Mr. McCann for his wisdom and guidance over their years in Bogota. This was also a chance for his Students, and many alumni attending, to wish him a final farewell and thank him for all he has done for the Students of Bogota High School. Mr. McCann was given flower, a large jar of Twizzlers and a Life Size cut-out of himself.  He was also present with a custom made stuff bear with a message from the band. 
   After the intermission the Bogota Concert Choir, under the Direction of Ms. Andrea Lynch and accompanied by Mr. John DiPinto on the piano and Mr Barry McCann on the Djembe. The Choir sang four songs with one “Surface Pressure” starting with a Solo from Mr. Kingston Singh. Ms. Lynch and Mr. DiPinto were given presents, before the final number, in appreciation from the choir.  Next came the Purple Notes performing two song. The second number started with Ms. Amisha Singh having a flute solo as a lead in to “Don’t Worry Be Happy” and then rejoining the quartet. 
  After a brief pause the final performance of the evening was given by the Bogota Jazz Band,  Direction of Mr Barry McCann. They played four songs with the finale  being  “Think” by Ms. Aretha Franklin. It began with a Trombone Solo by Mr. Spencer Mazzella. As the song continued almost each of the members of the Jazz Band had their own solo to show the skills and musical talent encouraged by Mr. McCann.
   The Bogota Marching Buccaneer Band will next the Bogota Memorial Day Parade on Monday-30-May. It will start at 2:00p from Palisade Ave and Chestnut St and make its way through Bogota ending in front Borough Hall on Larch Ave. The Public is invited to attend.

Bogota Borough Council

  On Thursday-19-May the Bogota Borough Council held their second meeting of the Month. After a Executive Session to discuss the hiring of a new Borough Administrator, the Public meeting was called back in session.
   This began with Bogota Mayor Christopher Kelemen paying tribute to longtime Bogota Recreation Director Mr. Jim Moore who will retire at the end of the Month. He said how Mr. Moore is the longest serving director in the history of the Borough. Mayor Kelemen mentioned a few of the programs that have grown under Mr. Moore guidance, including the Summer Camp and the Easter Egg Hunt. It was also mention, that on top of his normal duties, Mr. Moore could be seen pick-up groceries for Senior Citizens when needed, and offering them rides to Medical appointments. The Mayor then presented Mr. Moore with a plaque recognizing his service to the Borough. This had a photos of Mr. Moore at his final Egg Hunt this year surrounded by just some of the many Children of  Bogota he had cared for over the years. 
  The Council unanimously passed all the items voted on. Items of note was  to pass the adoption of the 2022 Municipal Budget. To amend the Borough code on "Driveway Aprons" This will now allow driveway running across the sidewalks and to the street to be made of concrete pavers and  as well as poured concrete. To increase the Cat and Dog licence fee to $12.00 per year for all pets which have been spayed or neutered.  The fee is$15.00 for those pets that have not been spayed or neutered.
 During the Council reports several announcements were made. During shredding event on Saturday 21-May, reusable shopping bags will be given out to each person dropping old paper work. Limit one per car.  The Shred  Day will take place at the Recreation Centre Parking Lot from 9:00a to 1:00p. Mayor Kelemen announced  that the Bogota Memorial Day remembrance service will take at 11:00a in front of Borough Hall. And the Memorial Day Parade will start at 2:00p on Palisades Ave and travel to Borough Hall.
     There was also the announcement of Public meeting schedule changes. The next meeting will still be Thursday-2-June schedule to start at 7:30p. A Special Meeting will be held on Thursday-16-June. This meeting will start at 6:30p The main purpose of this meeting is to negotiate with contractors about the cost of construction of the proposed Recreation Center. Much of this meeting will be heard in Executive Session. There will also be a regular meeting on Wednesday-29-June scheduled to start at 7:30p. 
 All meeting are open to the Public, and will take place in the Council Chamber, or the Senior Centre both located at 375 Main St, Bogota ,NJ.
 The Borough is seeking  a Full Time position of  Deputy Borough Clerk/Registrar. This  position can be applied for by,  qualified candidates providing a cover letter and resume with three (3) references to Mr.Edward Hynes, admin@bogotaonline.org, Borough Administrator. Bogota Board of Education

  On Tuesday-17-May the Bogota Board of Education held their second meeting for the Month. In his report Superintendent Mr. Damian Kennedy made several announcements.  The first was to address the rise in positive cases of covid. His recommendation in response, after meeting with local Board of health, was to asked Students and all Visitors to the school buildings and other event to continue to wear masks. As of this time wearing of masks will not be made mandatory. Superintendent Kennedy then announced was that the next Board of Education meeting will be held on Tuesday 14-June and take place in Speary Gym. This will allow the Board to honour the those Teachers who will retire at the end of the year. They will also announce the Teachers of the year for each of the Districts schools.  Along with recognizing the Student /Athletes whose team has won Divisional Championships. Another part of this meeting will be to present the District’s goals for the next five years to improve the education of the Student in Bogota. This will start at 7:00p and is open to the Public.
  Superintendent Kennedy final announcement was to award Certificate of Academic  Achievements  to 15 Student who have been attending an Adult English as a Second Language courses. They have been attending these classes since October. They were presented with their Certificate  by Superintendent Kennedy, and School Board President Mr. Frank Miranda.
     Then the Trustee moved to vote on agenda items. All items were passed by an unanimous  vote. Items of note were: to approve the 2022-23 District Calendar.  The 2022-23 school year will have 183 instruction days scheduled. The State of New Jersey requires 180 days of classes.  The first day of classes will be on Tuesday-6-September.  The last day is scheduled for Thursday-22-June-2023.  There are a number of emergency closures day built into this calendar.  The Winter break will run from Monday-26-December to Monday-2-January-2023. Spring break will run from Friday-7-April to Friday-14-April-2023. Four new Holidays have been added, Rosh Hashanah on Monday-26-September, Yom Kipper on Wednesday-5-October, Eid al Fitr on Friday-21-April-2023, and Juneteenth  on Monday-19-June-2023. The Columbus Day Holiday has been removed.
  The next Board of Education meeting will be on Tuesday-14-June and is scheduled to start at 7:00p. It will be a hybrid meeting with in-person attendance and available online. The in person meeting will be held in the Speary Gym located at 2 Henry Luthin Pl. Bogota, NJ The meeting is open to the Public.

  Parents of the Bogota High School Class of 2022 have set-up a Go Fund Me page to help offset the cost the Project Graduation trip for the Graduation Seniors of this years Class. This is to provide the Senior Students one last Class event after the Graduation Ceremony.  This take place at a surprised at a nearby venue. The new Alumni be professional driven from Bogota High School to the event and back providing them with safe transportation.

The Bogota High School Department of Music will host their Spring Concert. This will feature performances by the Concert band, and the Jazz band under the direction of Mr. Barry McCann. There will also be performance by the Full Choir, and the Women's and Men's Choirs.
All of these will be under the direction of Ms. Andrea Lynch.  There will also be be a display of Student Art works in the hallways. The Spring Concert will take place in the
Bogota High School Auditorium beginning at 7:30p.  There is no charge for Admission. Band Parents are asked to bring food items to by sold at the concession stand, there with also be a raffle.

On Saturday-21-May and Sunday 22-May, the Bogota High School Class of 2022 will hold a fundraising Carwash.  This will take place at the Valley National Bank parking lot located at 325 Palisade Ave Bogota, NJ. The event will start at 2:00p both days. Prices are $5.00 for Sedans and $7.00 for SUVs and Trucks. Proceeds will go to this years Project Graduation.

The Bogota Environmental  Commission will host its annual Shred Day. This will take place from 9:00a to 1:00p. This is  a free service open to Bogota residents. There will be a shredding truck present which will allow residents to safely  dispose of any personally , or sensitive paper document they may have. This is also a more environmentally friendly way of disposing of those documents. Paper is feed into a secure truck while being shredded then the truck transport the shredded paper to a processor which turns the paper into a fine dust, or powder which is then recycled into various paper products. This will be held at the Bogota Recreation Center located at 162 W. Main St. Bogota, NJ.
