Weekend Events

Some events scheduled to take place in and around Bogota, for the month of January starting on Tuesday-1-January-2019. Times and dates may change due weather or other circumstances. Please contact the event for the most up to date information.  More events will be added when they become available.

Continuing 


  Starting on Sunday-1 July-2018 the Borough of Bogota will change the ordnance in what can be recycled. Bottle & cans recycling pick-up the Borough of Bogota will now be limited to: Aluminium, Glass, Bi-metal/Tin cans. Aluminium foils and pie plates will be accepted but must be clean. Plastic Containers with the symbol  1, 2, or 5  only  will also be accepted.   All recyclable material must be placed in  reusable trash receptacles.  Items places in plastic bag will not be collected. Paper and cardboard recycling remains unchanged.
   The  collectible the products that have been removed from the accepted list will now be accepted by The Borough of Bogota in cooperation with the Ridgefield Park  environmental commission and collected in a separate way. The Trex Corporation has provided bins to accept the following item. Grocery bags, bread bags, case overwrapping, dry cleaning bags, newspaper sleeves, ice bags, wood pellet bags, zip lock & other re-seal able bags, produce bags, bubble wrap, salt bags, and cereal bags. All  recyclable materials must be clean, dry and free of food residue. For every 500 pounds of plastic collected the Trex Corporation will donate a new park bench, made from recycled materials. The benches will be donated to both Bogota and Ridgfield Park on a rotating basis. As of now a Trex collection bin is in the lobby of the Bogota Borough Hall and  the Bogota Public Library can be accessed  during  regular business hours. More bins are planned for other locations in the future.
  The collection day under the new rules will be Thursday-5-July (due to the Fourth of July Holiday) Then every other Wednesday.

Wednesday- Thursday-2 & 3 January

The Bogota  Public Library will have  story time reading  starting at 10:30a. También habrá Historias leídas en español en este momento. This is open available to any Student wishing to join in.  This will be held  under the tree in the Nikki Spiegel Story Time Corner. Thursday-3-January
Bogota
 The Bogota Board of Education  will have their  Re-Origination meeting for 2019. This is scheduled for 6:00p and will be held in the  High School Cafeteria  located on the second floor of 2 Henry Luthin place Bogota, NJ. Eileen Lewis, Kathy VanBuren, and Michael Connors will be given the oath of office at that time.  The Public is invited to attend.
  The Board of Education meetings for 2019 will be announce at the 3-January meeting.

Thursday-3-January

  The Bogota Borough Council will hold their Sine Die.  This will be held in the Senior Centre located on the second floor  of 375 Larch Ave. Bogota NJ starting at 7:00p . Then the swearing in of the newly elected Council Members  Connie Carpenter  and Rob Robbins will take place , and the official Council member is scheduled to begin at 7:30p The Public is invited to both meeting.

Saturday-6-January

   The Bogota  Public Library  host their Toddler play group. This is an opportunity for   young children and their Parents to play and relax in a safe area. This will  start at 10:30a and be held in the second floor Senior Centre. For more information please  about this and

Saturday-5-January
Bogota
  The Bogota Public Library will host a workshop for young athletes in Bogota  This will be the first of four Saturday's to encourage Students to learn more about how learning any sport can be beneficial in everyday life. It will be in two separate age groups.  One group for anyone ages from 2-7 will run from  11:00a. to noon.  All Students who participate must be accompanied by a Parent or Guardian through out the event. This is a free event, but anyone attending is asked to register with the library in advance.

Monday-7-January
Bogota
 The Bogota Public  Library will have their Youth's Sewing Club meeting.  This is  open to  Students ages 9-18.  This will teach anyone the art of sewing. There will be a chance to learn machine, and hand sewing as well as shown different project and types of material. Monday-7-January
Bogota
  The Bogota Public Library will offer an AARP  Defensive Driving Course. This is designed for drivers over the age of 50 and will explain update driving rules and teach defensive driving techniques.    The Bogota Public  Library host their Nintendo Game Club.  This is  open to  Students ages 10-17.  Students are welcomed to spend an evening playing video and board games with fellow gamers.

     The weekly " Meet the Mayor"  event will take place in the office of Mayor Chris Keleman This is open to any Bogota resident who would to ask the Mayor a question about  Bogota, or to discuss any matter to help improve the quality of life in the Borough. Anyone who wishes just to have an informal conversation with the Mayor is also welcome to attend. Meetings will be held on a first come basis. This will run from 5:00p to 7:00p in the Mayor's office. His office is on in Bogota Borough Hall located at 375 Larch Ave. Bogota, NJ.

Bogota Beautiful

  Wednesday-19-December-2018 Bogota Beautiful held their Public Meeting for December. To start the meeting it was announced that they raise over $400.00 during their Giveback Tuesday Facebook promotion.  
  Some new projects that were discussed was to again partner with the Bogota Public Library on their annual International  Potluck Dinner.  This will be held on Saturday-23-February running for 1:00p to 3:00p  and take place in the second floor Senior Center,  located at 375 Larch Ave BogotaAdmissions will still be a donated dish representing one's cultural background.  There will also be a collection of  food item for the St. Joseph's Food Bank. These should non-perishable canned , or boxed goods. They are also looking  for volunteers to aid with set-up, serving, and cleaning. Any High School Student will earn Community Service credit for this event. All Volunteers are asked to arrive at 11:00p . Food items will be accepted from 11:30-12:30p with the dinner starting at 1:00p.
   Anyone attending must register with the Bogota Library, or Bogota Beautiful and list what item they will be bring.  Dishes needed are Appetizers, Main Course, Side Course, and Desserts. Anyone wishing to volunteer should also register that the above website.
  Another project is the annual Earth day Clean-up. This will take place on Saturday 27-April. Bogota Beautiful will be taking suggestions of which area(s) of Bogota should be focus on this year. They are also planning to present an environmental education displays. 
  One more project will take place on Saturday-11-May in Olsen Park. This will be joint effort  by Bogota Beautiful and the Northern New jersey Community Foundation. ( NNJCF). This will be a "Fence Weaving" project using one of the fences of the ball field along the W. Main St extension in Olsen Park.  More detailed information on this project will be announced  at a future date. 
  The next Bogota Beautiful board meeting will take place on Wednesday-16-January  starting at 7:30p. This will be held on the second floor of the Kennedy Emergency Services Building located at 69 W. Main Street Bogota, NJ and is open to the public.  For more information  on volunteering for any of these project. Bogota 125

1-January-2019
  Tuesday -1-January-2019 is the start of the year that the Borough of Bogota will celebrate it's 125th Anniversary. A guide for news and events about the actives for this year can be found at:  http://bogotanj125.org .  This is the official website for the Bogota  Quasquicentennial celebration.  The website will be officially launch at the Bogota  Borough Council meeting on Thursday-17-January starting at 7:30p.  At this meeting there will be other announcements to help celebrate the Quasquicentennial of Bogota.
  At http://bogotanj125.org there will be stories and information about of Bogota, and how the Citizen of the Borough can participate in the celebration. The website has a welcoming from Mayor Chris Kelemen, a History of Bogota, and a Calendar of events. On the website anyone can sign-up for the Anniversary newsletter , which will also be mailed to all Bogota residents,  to inform them of  upcoming events for the year.  A with Frequently Asked Questions page can assist those who want to volunteer to help with the celebrations event, or to donate stories, items, or photos adding to the history of Bogota.
The website will be update through out the year as more events are planned.
