Bogota Council

 5-May-2023

On Thursday-4-May the Bogota Borough Council had their Work session meeting for the month.  At the start of the meeting Bogota Mayor Mr. Christopher Kelemen asked for a moment to remember Mr. Richard O'Connor, Bogota Volunteer Fire Fighter and former Captain of Hose Co. #2. Along with the Mother of Bogota OEM Chief Mr. Robert Foster. Both of whom passed away in late April.
With a work session meeting items will be brought forward to allow for discussion of the Governing Body.  Some items will then be moved to future meetings if they are to be voted on.
Items included were to study a proposal to lease vehicles from Enterprise Fleet Management.
This would allow the company to provide the Borough the opportunity to lease Police Cars, and possible vehicles for the Volunteer Fire Department and the Department of Public Works.  Further discussions about need and funding for this proposal will take place at future meetings.  Another was the need to hire a company to perform a study of the area the newsiest proposed Community Center is to be built. This did require a vote to approve this item, which was passed unanimously. If the study is forwarded to the Borough by past companies is sufficient a new study will not be needed.
Items that were moved to the next Regular meeting were hiring of new employees for the DPW. And an Ordinance to prohibit short term rentals (under 30 days) with-in the Borough.  Another item was to advertise for part-time employees for the Bogota Recreation Department. This will go under review.
One resolution was passed by unanimous vote. This was grant application for the Bergen County Open Space Trust Fund. This is to apply for funding for field lighting in Olsen Park for all the fields.
Also approved was Firefighter Mr. David Phiffer to be accepted at a member of Hooh& Ladder Co. #1.
Durning the online Public Comment session, the connection again experienced technical difficulties. The meeting was stopped until the connection was restored. Then the residents' questions, who were logged in, were then able to be heard and answered.
The next Borough Council Regular meeting will be held on Thursday-18-May starting at 7:00p.  This will be held in-person, and in a Hybrid format, is scheduled to be held in the Council Chambers starting at 7:00p. The Work Session Meeting will have only one Public Comment session at the end of a Work Session meeting. There will not be any Governing Body reports.
