On Thursday-19 March, the Bogota Borough Council held their Regular meeting for the month.
At the start of the meeting there was a presentation to honour the two squads of the Recreation Department's Competitive Cheer Program. This program was begun in 2024. There are two classes of competitors. They are the Bogota Peewee Bucs for grades 3 & 4, the Junior Bucs are for grades 5 & 6.
Both squads competed in six competitions in their season. Their final event was the Spirit Brand Mid-Atlantic event on 25- January and held in Atlantic City.
The two squads would place first in their division. The Peewee squad won the Under 10 Division, with the Junior Squad winning the Under 12 Division.
Both squads stepped forward so Bogota Mayor Ms. Daniele Fede could present the members with a certificate to recognize their achievement. After this two members from each squad gave Mayor Fede a championship banners for each division. These will be hung up in the Community Center when it opens.
After Citizens Comments, the Borough's Chief Financial Officer Mr. Greg Bock gave his report on the 2026 Municipal Budget. Mr. Bock said that this year's budget will increase by 7.5% with an average of a $319 increase for the year per home.
The introduction of the 2026 Municipal Budget was approved by unanimous vote.
This will be open for Public Comment at the next Council meeting on Thursday-23-April.
There was then a discussion about how the Borough will honour Memorial Day. The Remembrance Ceremony will be held in front of Borough Hall. Then the idea of holding a Public event was talked about. This may be a replacement of the Memorial Day Parade due to the drop in viewership along the parade route.
This was followed by a vote to approve the Ordinance for the salary range for non-union and supervisory personal. This was passed by unanimous vote.
Then the Council voted on the consent agenda. All resolutions were passed by unanimous vote.
Items of note were:
- the appointment of Mr. Scott Devlin as the new Borough Municipal Clerk for Bogota.
-approval of purchases for the new Community Center.
After all items were voted on Mr. Devlin was sworn in to his new position by Mayor Fede.
Other approvals were for Olsen Park to be used for the Sunday-31-May Arc Walk starting at 9:30a. Also approved was to allow outdoor seating for Nataly's Kitchen at 296 Palisade Ave for the Summer months.
The next Council meeting will be held on Thursday-23-April starting at 7:30p. It is scheduled to be held in the Council Chambers located on the second floor of 375 Larch Ave Bogota, NJ.
Starting in April there will only be one Council meeting per month.
