Leaf season started on Tuesday-10-October until Monday-18-December. Homeowners are allowed to place raked, leaves and grass cutting in the street, along the curb, in front of their residents.  It is asked that the piles be placed in such a way as not to interfere with traffic, and away from storm sewers and drain to prevent flooding, or other water build-up. Leaf Season is schedule to end on Monday -18- December after that date all yard waste must be placed in brown leaf bags for pick-up.

The Bogota Recreation Department will hold its annual House Decorating Contest. This is open to all Bogota residents and will have three categories. The house decorating will be judged on Dec 22nd.    On Wednesday-29-November the Bogota Middle School has put up a Giving Tree in the main lobby. They are looking for any sized, gently used (or new) winter coats, new hats, new gloves, gently used toys (puzzles/board games/books). Donated items will be hung on the tree or place them under the tree as they come in. The General Public can donate items in the morning from 7:30a-8:15a at the front entrance and again from 2:45p-3:15p. There will also be a donation box outside during school hours.  All donations will go to families in need for this holiday season. This will continue until Thursday-21-December. Ms.  Mary Wynman is organizing a Senior Citizen Care Packages collection drive. She is looking for donation of soaps, toothpaste, shaving kits, kitchen towels. hand sanitizer, tissues and other personal hygiene items. Gloves, scarfs, hats, and other cold weather clothing are also needed.  She will also except adult coloring, color pencils, holiday pens, crafts, holiday socks, ornaments, back scratchers candies, cookies, decks of cards. All donations should be dropped off on, or before Monday-18-December at 210 Cypress Ave, Bogota.

 Donations will be distributed with the help of "helping hands" starting on Thursday-21-Decemebr to Sunday-24-December.For more information please contact her at 201-906-3566.

 The Ridgefield Park Elks Lodge # 1506 will host a Tuesday Night Pork Loin Dinner with desert.  This will take place in the Elks lodge is located at the 30 Spruce St. Ridgefield Park, NJ.  The event will start at 6:00p a with a donation of $12.00 per person.  Dinner will include salad and desert. Menorah Lighting

 8-December-2023

  On Thursday-7-December the Borough of Bogota held their annual Menorah lighting on the first night of Hanukkah 5784. This took place in front of the Borough Hall, with a Menorah provided by the Chabad House of Teaneck. Under tight security a large crowd in attendance from Bogota, Teaneck and other surrounding communities made this one of the larger first night lighting gathering in Bergen County.
 Those joining in the celebration were treated to Potato Latkes, a variety of donuts, cotton candy along with hot chocolate and coffee. Also, there were a number of rides and games set-up to provide some entertainment until Sunset. 
  When the time arrived for the lighting ceremony to begin Rabbi Ephraim Simon from the Chabad House gave a welcoming message. Rabbi Simon thanked Bogota Mayor Chris Kelemen for again celebrating this first night of Hanukkah in Bogota. Next Bogota Mayor Chris Kelemen welcome their neighbors from Teaneck for being a part of the Holiday celebration. He thanked the Rabbi for sharing this moment, as neighbors together as one.
   Before the lighting ceremony began Rabbi Simon answered the question if such an event was needed this year. His response was that that the important this gathering is necessary now in order to shine the light of hope and peace for citizens of the world.
  To begin the lighting Rabbi Simon gave the honour of lighting the Shamash to Mayor Kelemen. He held the “candle” together in front of the Menorah, then the Bogota Mayor ignited the premier light of the season. Next came the lighting of the first of eight candles that symbolized the eight days of Hanukkah. This honour was given to Dr. Asher Goldstein as he accepted, he the flame to light the first candle after reciting the Prayer for Lighting the Hanukkah candles. Dr. Goldstein said that he was proud to do this for his son now serving in the Israeli Defense Forces.
  Hanukkah is commemoration of the Maccabean rebellion after the fall of King Solomon’s Second Temple in Jerusalem, to the Greeks. After the destruction of the temple only enough oil was found to light a lamp for one night. But the lamp was able to stay lit for eight nights until more candle oil was able to be delivered to the city.
