Steen School

    Today the Lillian M. Steen school in Bogota NJ received their grand prize from the New York Jets. It is for the Eat Right Move More program for the 2011-12 school year. This honour is given to Steen school for their continuing effort to provide a healthy ,and balanced food program. As well as the importance  giving the students a full range of physical actives during the school day. On hand to honour the school were the New Jersey Secretary of Agriculture Mr. Douglas Fisher, The Bergen County Executive Ms. Kathleen Donovan, Assemblywoman Ms. Valerie Huttle. and from Senator Weinberg's Office Mr. Dylan Hawkins. Also Bogota Mayor Patrick Mchale attended to tell the Students, and Facility how proud the town is of the work being done at the school. Finally from the New York Jets football team Mr. D'Brickashaw Ferguson the Spokesman for the Eat Right Move More program.
   Mr. Fisher spoke about what it took for Steen school to win this award. Telling of the effort put in by the staff and facility to make sure the students are getting a healthy program of food & exercise in school.  Mr. Fisher also announced the six student that will attend a Jets football game as guest of the club.Then Ms. Donovan presented  Principal Ms. Anna Falco a Certificate of Commendation from Bergen County on their achievement.  Ms Huttle & Mr. Hawkins also presents Ms. Falco with an Certificate  from the State Legislature in honour of what the school has done. The it was Mr. Ferguson, along with Mr. Fisher, to present Principal Falco the check made out for $5,000 as winner of the grand prize. This money will go to improve, and upgrade the kitchen area with better equipment.
   The Mr. Ferguson had a chance to talk with the Students themselves. He told ,how at a young age, he had to undergo open heart surgery. How this could have made his life different if he did not have a healthy diet, with exercise. He then had time to let some of the students ask him question, some were on  what he does to be a football player, others on what his favorite food is. The assembly ended with the chance to will autographed items from Mr. Ferguson, if the kids (and some Teachers) could answer question about his life.  Principal Falco thanked everyone in attendance, the New York Jets for their award, and her students for earning this honour, and their behavior at the assemble.
