On Saturday 24-October, the Bogota Public Library started the day with their "Not-so-Scary Storytime". This was held in the Children’s Reading Center and led by Mr. Tom Skrnich. The stories he chose were called “Frankenkitty,” where a mad scientist creates a cat but doesn’t know how to take care of it. Then Ms. Jenifer Arias read “5 More Sleeps ‘til Halloween”, where a young boy plans his time for Halloween in the days leading up to it. When the stories were done, Mr. Skrnich led the children in a dance about eating a banana.
After the Not-so-Scary Storytime had finished, the Library’s staff and their volunteers held their Haunted Library on the second-floor Senior Center. Costumed students were able to play a number of games that included: Cornhole with a pumpkin board, Octopus Ring-toss, 11 Pin Bowling, and throwing a ball at a tower of cans to knock them down.
There was also a variety of Treats offered.
For the brave, there was also a chance to walk through the dark tunnel. This was set-up full of colored lights, eerie sounds and props that jumped toward the walkers. Children dressed in costumes walked through the tunnel to find out if they could make it to the other end. Some would need to hold on to a parent, while others tried it on their own. They were rewarded with plushies and stickers after making it out of the darkness. The attendees featured Princesses, Witches, and Superheroes, as well as popular characters like Goku and Perry the Platypus. There were also a few group costumes, such as an Addams family and a family that referenced the "It" movies.
