New Steen Principal

   On Thursday 25- Sept. the Steen School held their back to school night. This was basically like the one held at Bixby School earlier, and the High School next week. A few other things were presented at the Steen last night. One was that new gym floor installed over the Summer. Much to the delight of Physical Education Teacher Ms. Ciccone  the new floor is a typical Hardwood floor with no seams to come loose. This will also be a welcomed by the Bogota Middle School Basketball team which has use  Steen as their Home court in the pass.  Another  was an address by School Board Superintendent Dr. Letizia Pantoliano she was on hand to  personally explain the new grading system for students in Kindergarten to fifth grade. She had previously Bixby School as well to talk about the new system.  She told the Parents that this new system was based on a 1 to 4 standard. A 4 meaning that a student is performing at a grade level higher in a subject then they are currently in. A 1 meaning that a Student is in need of some help in learning the subject being graded. The new system is also separated into more specific areas. A Student will be graded on more than just Math but on that specific type of Math ie:  Addition, Subtraction, Fractions,  Algebra, etc throughout the year. And that a blank space means that part of the subject has not yet been covered.
  The Main part of the evening was the formal announcement that Principal Thomas Conroy was leaving Steen to accept the same position at a school closer to his home.  He wanted to take the time to thank the Parents & Students for their support at Steen, and wished them all well  Mr. Conroy was thanked by the Parents with a long round of applause. Then the new Interim Principal  Ms. Christine Giancola  was introduced to the Parents.

The Bogota Bucs Football Team have a Home Game against Wallington. This will take place at Feigel Field and be the one evening Home game for  Bogota, it will have a 7:00p Kick-off.

 The Bogota Bucs Soccer team plays an away  game against St. Mary's.  This will be classified as a Varsity Game. It will have a 4:00p Kick-off

 Saturday-27- Sept.

  The Bogota Police Dept.  and the Bogota Green Team in cooperation with the US Drug Enforcement Administration will be holding a ninth Take Back event. This will occur on Saturday 27- Sept from 10:00a to 2:00p at the Bogota Police Headquarters located on W. Broad St in Bogota. They are accepting all unused , or expired prescription medication anonymously.  Only medication in pill or patch form will be accepted, (no liquids or needles) This is an effort to eliminate unnecessary prescription medication from households so they do not taking by anyone but the intended user.  This is to keep the medication away from minors, and other situation where an accidental poisoning , or overdose may occur. This take back also allows for prescription medication to be dose of in a way that is safe for the local environment & water supply.
   A bin will be set-up in the lobby of Police Headquarters so all drop-off will be anonymous and confidential. This is a free service to the public.   The Bogota Band Parents will again sponsor it's Town Wide Garage Sale on Saturday 27-Sept. It will run from 10:00a to 4:00p rain or shine. The cost to participate is $10.00 this will allow the seller to have their address listed on the official garage sale map and  they will receive yard sign for their address show that are a participant. Process from the registration fee will go to help support the Bogota High School Marching Buccaneer Band.  A complete registration form and payment must to sent in before Sat. 20 Sept in order for an address to be place on the Band Parent Map.   The Bogota Band Parents is another group of Families who  join together to help fund the High School program when School fund are not available.  Some of the help provided is trip planning and addition transportation to away football game, and Band competitions. Providing  chaperoning for trips and other items needed to a successful Band program.   Bogtoa Lady Bucs Volleyball Team will play in the William Paterson Tournament. This will be at  William Patterson University in Wayne , NJ the Tournament will begin at 8:30a

The  both Bogota Bucs  Cross Country Squads  will  run at the Passaic County Coaches Invitation at Garret Mountain  in Woodland Park, NJ

 The Bogota Junior Bucs Football teams next play against Secaucus on Saturday 27- Sept. This will be an evening game with the Pee-Wee Kickoff at 6:00p. The other games will follow.

Sat & Sun-27& 28- Sept.

  The Bogota High School PTO will be having their Fall Clothing drive. Items should be neatly bagged and placed on the tarp in front of the school. Items that will be accepted are clothes, towels, bed linen, stuffed animals, shoes, etc.This year they  will be collecting hard toys & bicycles. Strollers, high chairs, car seats, cribs, play centers, bouncers, walkers and swings will not  be accepted If possible, shoes should be bagged separately.

Sat & Sun-27& 28- Sept.

 Ridgefield Park, NJ

 Bergen County is sponsoring a Harvest Festival on Saturday & Sunday  28-29 Sept. in the Ridgefield Park section of Overpeck Park. Admission is free and it is open to the Public.

  The Ridgefield Park Elks club will be hosting a "Sock Hop"  There will be Music by the Great Pretender. It will start at 7:30p and to until 10:00p Admission is $10.00 with the processes going to the Elks Club and it's charities.     The City of hackensack will be holding their annual Street Fair from 10:00a to 6:00p This will take place along Main St from Atlantic  to Passaic Sts. There will be  a performance by the Average White Band on the Main Stage at Passaic St. The performance is scheduled to begin at 4:00p  Other performance will take place throughout the day.  Along with food vendors, there will be games & rides for children. Fire Dept. Events

25- Sept.-2014
   Some events that were sponsored by different Companies of the Bogota Volunteer Fire Fire Dept.
   On Sunday 21- Sept. Engine Co. # 3 sponsored the Zerbini  Family Circus which took place in the little League Fields of Olsen. Battalion Chief Chip Greiner feels that the performances were successful enough to start planning a return of the Circus to Bogota for next year.
  On Wednesday 24-Sept.  Hook & Ladder # 1 and Engine Co. #1 hosted a Blood & Platelet drive at the W. Broad St. Firehouse.  A number of Firefighter signed up to give blood, along with private Citizens joined with elected  officials to add to the supply of  blood for emergency uses.

  On Sunday 26- Oct. Hose Co. #2 is schedule to have their 7th annual Pancake Breakfast in order to help with the operating expenses for this one of the Borough's all volunteer Fire Companies. Firehouse is located at 164 Central Ave Bogota, NJ  Prices and time will be announced at a later date.

     These are some of the  ways the Bogota Volunteer Fire Department serves the citizens of Bogota. The Bogota Fire Department is an all volunteer organization serving the Borough since 1901. They also provide assistance in  rescue , and other emergency situation. The Bogota Fire Department is now currently recruiting new members to become volunteers. This is open to anyone Female or Male who are at least 18 years of age , and are residents of Bogota as well as Ridgefield Park, Teaneck ,and Hackensack.  Training, and equipment will be provided. There is also a Junior Firefighter program open to young Women, and Men who at at least 16 years of age. A Junior Firefighter will also receive training , and be a part of the support system to the Firefighters themselves. For more information about volunteering please to: bogotafire.org/  or call;
