Black Friday part 3

    The final part of the Bogota Police Emergency Service Youth Academy " Black Friday"  duty day was  a time for the Cadets to try and process the events of the last few hours.  After a final hose down the Cadets were order to see Sgt Lynch on their way back to base camp. He stood  in their path in order to meet each Cadet as they passed by. He extended his hand and offered his congratulations for their effort and dedication , not only to the Academy , but to themselves for going beyond themselves to find out things they may have never known.  A slow line of yellow shirts found their way back to the shelter now in shadows of emergency lighting. Some found their way back to their Squads. Other were asked to sit as a triage table to have minor cuts & bruises attended to, or get closer to the light in order to help them to warm up a little more.  When the Cadets first had a chance to sit down, cold, wet, physically and emotionally  drain they took in liquid and tried to comprehend what had just happen.
   Slowly an energy return to each Cadet as they saw their fellow Cadets make it up the path to join the other survivors.  Soon the fatigue was forgotten as they now started to congratulate  each other and talked about their shared ordeal. When all the Squads were back together a competion of which could out shout the other echoed in the shelter. After the Cadets were allowed to voice any pent up emotions, calm was then restored. One final lineup was needed as the Squad formed up again.  This time it was Sgt Lynch to do the talking. he did it not as a group, but to each Cadet face to face. He wanted to now address the individual in their own private moment.  At the end of the brief conversation each Cadet was handed a small package. In this was their own "Challenge Coin"  on a chain. This was started with Class 04 as a physical symbol of experiences as  part of the Bogota Police Emergency Service Youth Academy  Class 05.  After the last coin was handed out the Cadets, still in formation, had a chance to absorb what the last six days has done to them. Some in quiet and stoic solitude, other trying their best to control their emotions. They were finally able to fall-out and help clean the basecamp the return to the vans that will bring them home. The caravan  of vans with Cadets,  cars with other Instructors, and  other support vehicles roared through the night  on their way south.  As they arrive back in Bogota the survivors were  greeted by Parents  wanting to see the damage done to their Children. Both found each other with smiles and stories to tell.

Future Events

     Some future events that will be happening in and around Bogota.

  On Tuesday September 22 the Bogota Volunteer Fire Dept Engine Co. #3 will be sponsoring two performances of the  Zerbini Family Circus. This circus is returning to Bogota  after performing two show last year. The Big Top will again be set-up in the Eastern Section of Olsen Park with the main entrances on the W.Main St. ext side of the park.  They will have two performance that night with the first starting at 5:00p and the second scheduled to begin at 7:00p.  Advance ticket are now on sale for $10 per person and Student ( 12 years & younger) for $8:00p. These may be purchase at The Bogota Recreation Center, The Bogota Library or at Box Car bagels.  Tickets will be available  at the gate for $12 and $10 respectively.
    Proceeds from this event will go to fund Engine Co. #3 to cover their operating expense.  For More information please call; 201-646-0801

    On Saturday 15 August the Steen PTO will doing a Summer clean-up of the school yard starting at 9:00a. They will freshening up the play area that were painted two years ago.  They are looking for volunteers to help with this project. They will also do a general clean-up of the grounds along with adding new planting near the W. Main St. entrance.  Anyone  wishing to volunteer please contact Kristin Meberg at:  kmeberg311@gmail.com .

 Saturday 8- August will be the final day to sign-up for Bogota Bucs Junior Football, and the Rec. Dept. Cheerleading.  This is an extension of the original deadline that was added due to not enough players signed up to have three full teams.

   : All divisions are opened to Girls  and Boys who live and attend any of the schools in Bogota.

- The Pee-Wee is for the youngest players which is for student from 2nd to 4th grade, and are under 11 years of age.
- The Junior division is for those players who are in 5th & 6st grade and are under the age of 13.
- The Senior division are those players who will be in 7th & 8th grade and are younger the 15 years of age.
 All home game will be played at Feigel Field in Bogota.

 Uniforms for Steen and Bixby schools will be available to be fitted and purchase at each school on tuesday 11- Aug for Steen , and Wednesday 12-August at Bixby . Times for both schools will be from 5:00p to 8:00p 

Black Friday part 2

    The second part of the Bogota Police Emergency Service Youth Academy  " Black Friday"  duty day was to incorporate teamwork with focus. The Cadet left their base camp and marched o the shore of the nearby lake. Their first task was to help their squads win a battle of firehoses. Members of the Bogota Volunteer Fire Dept Engine Co. #1 provided each squad with a firehose in which they needed to defend themselves as well as defeating the other Squads. Squad leaders took up command positions at the back of the line while the rest of the unit had to follow the commands to fight off the other Squads.
    After this came one of the more demanding mental test the Cadets would have to endure. First glow sticks were placed in the lake, and each Cadets had to retrieve one. The goal here was to to obtain one of the 50 glow sticks before any of the other 56 Cadets could.  Then came water based calisthenics separated by moments of leaving the water rolling around in the sand and returning to the water under the command of Instructor Perez. While all this was happening the Cadets had a Engine Co.#1 made rain storm pass over them. A few Cadets at a time then were order to leave the  water and report to a special where they were asked basicly one question. " ARE YOU HAPPY THAT YOU JOINED THE ACADEMY?"  A Cadet couldn't answer in words but by their actions of standing in front of a number of Instructors.  The whole time a cascade of products were placed on their heads.  With a week of training behind them each Cadet stood at attention and allowed the instructor to do their best.  After  that the Cadets were hosed down to remove the products from their bodies. Then order back to the lake for more sand and rain. The final time the Cadets were ordered  out of the lake to get one more washing down, then were order to pass by Sgt Lynch. As the Cadets approached the Academy Director he reach his hand out to individually congratulate  them on passing the toughest test the Academy had to offer.  The Cadets were then order back to basecamp to perform on more task.
