Community Energy Plan

23-May-2026
On Wednesday-20-May the Borough of Bogota Community Energy Plan was presented.
This was to allow Bogota to address climate change, and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This report was funded with a grant from the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU), the New Jersey Clean Energy Program (NJCEP), and Sustainable Jersey. The report was prepared by Colliers Engineering and Design, with Ms. Kristin Russell giving the presentation.
A 2019 NJ Energy Master Plan has a number of possible guidelines for Municipalities.
-Reduce energy consumption and emission with the use of more Electric Vehicles (EV).
- The use of more renewable energy and distribution resources.
- To improve energy efficiency and conservation.
- To reduce energy  consumption in buildings.
-Support job development and innovation in the clean  energy sector.
At the start of the presentation Bogota Mayor Daniele Fede said that the Borough is already using parts of the strategies in the report.
Then Ms. Russel talked about the ideas in the NJCEP master plan  that could be used in Bogota. These include,
-Support zoning and regulation of EV charging units and other infrastructure. Improve Municipal Fleet efficiency. Train First Responders about situations involving EV's and EV supply equipment along with other charging units. And have more community outreach.
- Adopt Zoning and Planning to include Solar collection in both the Public and Private sector. Training of Non-Emergency Staff on Solar Energy resources.
- Upgrade energy efficiency for Municipal facilities.
Some plans to increase energy efficiency was to install more Public Charging units on Municipal properties. Increase the number of rooftops that have solar panels on them. Currently 73% (about 1,900 locations) of the building in Bogota could be used for solar panels. Only 82 structures have solar panels on them.
Other plans can be to upgrade the energy use of the 8 buildings owned by the Borough. This would be done with installing more LED lighting fixtures and replace HVAC equipment to more efficient systems.
This plan will be presented to the Borough Council at their next meeting scheduled for Thursday-28-May at 7:30p in the Council Chambers on the second floor of 375 Larch Ave. It is open to the Public.
