Chiefs Election

 6-December-2021
 On Saturday-4-December the Bogota Volunteer Fire Department held their annual Chiefs election. This  year it was held inside the W. Broad St Firehouse with only a limited number of attendees.

   Councilman Mr. Robert Robbins, in his role as Fire Commissioner, gave the oath of office to  Officer Joseph Kleiber of Hose Co.  #2  as the Fire Chief for 2022. This was followed by 

Councilman Robbins swearing in Officer William Horden of Hook & Ladder Co. #1 as the new Deputy Chief . Then Officer Michael Krynicky of Engine Co.#3 as the new Battalion Chief. Outgoing Chief Kenneth Kalman then present new Chief Kleiber with his helmet shield. Next Chief Kleiber presented Deputy Chief Horden with his helmet shield, followed by Battalion Chief Krynicky receiving a new helmet with the shield signifying his new rank. Councilman Robbins then swore in the Captains and Lieutenants for 2022.

   Councilman Robbins presented Chief  Kalman with a plaque from the Mayor and Council recognizing his service to the Borough of Bogota. Chief  Kleiber was then presented with a Maltese Cross picture frame with photos highlighting his year as Fire Chief for Bogota. The final announcement by Chief Kalman was that Engine Co#1 the winner of Company of the Year trophy for 2021.

     The Bogota Fire Department, and all the other Emergency Service Companies in Bogota are now currently recruiting new members to become volunteers. This is open to anyone Female or Male who are at least 18 years of age , and are residents of Bogota as well as Ridgefield Park, Teaneck ,and Hackensack.  Training, and equipment will be provided. There is also a Junior Firefighter program open to young Women, and Men who at least 16 years of age. A Junior Firefighter will also receive training , and be a part of the support system to the Firefighters themselves. Broad St. Firehouse from 7:00-8:00p

   On  Sunday- 19-December members of The Bogota Volunteer Fire Dept. will be escorting Santa on his Lollipop tour of the Borough. This a final chance for the Bogota Children to show Santa that they  have be nice this year. He starts his tour at about Noon with Lollipops being passed out by his helpers. This is scheduled to start at 11:00a. Then on Friday-24-December Santa will again tour Bogota driven by  members of The Bogota Volunteer Fire Dept. This will start with the East side of the Borough at 5:00p and travel all through Bogota, before he makes his way back to the North Pole to begin delivering present for Christmas  Morning.

October to December

    Monday-4-October will be the start of Leaf Season. Home Owners are allowed to place raked, leaves and grass cutting  in the street , along the curb, in front of their residents.  It is ask that the piles be placed in such a way as not to interfere with traffic, and away from storm sewers and drain to prevent flooding , or other water build-up. Leaf Season is schedule to end on Monday -13- December after that date all yard waste must be placed in brown leaf bags for pick-up.

Bogota Friends and Families have started their annual  Toy Drive with You Give Goods. They will  again be working with the Bogota Police Department  to supply them for their annual Holiday Toy Drive.  All gifts will be shipped directly to the Bogota Police Department so they can help Santa deliver them. Donors will be emailed a tax receipt at the time of purchase. This will run until Tuesday-7-December. Items can purchased on the You Give Goods website at: https://yougivegoods.com/drive/. 
 They are hoping to reach at least 500 items to be donated this Holiday Season.

This will  commemorate the 80th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor.  The service will be held at the Veterans Memorial Monument (Euclid Avenue & Mt Vernon Street) on Tuesday-7-December and is scheduled to start at 7:00p.

The Bogota Public Library will host an  special Live Sing Along with Tommy geared towards youngsters ages 0-3. The Ridgefield Park Elks lodge #1506 will host a Fish Fry Dinner.

They will offer six choice of seafood dinner  this will  a choice of French Fries or baked Potato and Salad, and Dessert. This is a $10.00 donation fee per order. Indoor seating will be available by reservation and pre-order only. Orders will be for in town deliveries only, and must be pre-order.  A orders must be placed by Wednesday-8-December.This will start at 6:00p.

Tree Lighting

 4-December-2021

 On Friday-3-December the Borough of Bogota held their tree lighting ceremony for the 2021 Holiday season.  This was able to be an in person event, with a large crowd gathering in front of Borough Hall. As the attendees waited for the light to be turned on, there was a number of activities available.  As the children arrived they were greeted by Mrs. Claus who gave them tickets with a chance to win a gift at the end of the evening. A table with Elfie, and a couple of her friends offered cookies, hotdogs, and hot chocolate to be enjoyed. A small train ride took the visitors on a quick trip along Larch Ave.  Music was also provided to get the Holiday spirit  going, and a brief "Snow Storm" took place that party goers danced through.

   Then, from the North, sirens sounded, lights flashed as the members of the Bogota Volunteer  Fire Department arrive with a special guest. When the Hook and Ladder truck stopped in front of Borough Hall Santa Claus stood up and waved to all the children cheering a welcome to him. Santa walked up to the Building reet and hugging some of those he walked close to. He then greeted Mrs. Claus and turn to again wave to the crowd. After a few quick hugs, for the children close by, he asked is everyone was ready to help lite the tree.  

    Santa Claus  lead the countdown to turn on the lights. When the count came down to 1. Mr Claus gave a joyous shout of “ MERRY CHRISTMAS” and the 2021 Christmas Tree began to shine with light.  After Santa picked out the winning tickets for gifts he then wished everyone a Merry Christmas and to look for him when he travels through Bogota with the Firefighter passing out lollipops. 

    On Sunday-19-December the annual Lollipop Sunday will take place. Santa will be escorted around Bogota by the Fire Department starting close to 10:00a to see all the Children of the Borough.
