Culinary Arts and Creative Writing

 4-June-2026

On Thursday-4-June, Fifth grade Students of Ms. Candelaria, Ms. Trupp, and Mr. Autore of the Lillian M. Steen School in Bogota went to the Career & Technical Education Building (CTE) to have special classes as a part of Week of the Arts for 2026. These were Culinary Arts with Mr. Cavanaugh, and Creative Writing with Ms. Corso.
The Fifth-Grade Students of Ms. Jones, Ms. Parente, and Ms. Mawer has the same experience the day before.
They were split into two groups. One would go into the Kitchen and had the opportunity to frost cupcakes. When they enter the room, the Students first needed to wash their hands then watch Mr. Cavanaugh demonstrate how to use a piping bag and neatly add sprinkles.
The Culinary Arts Students were on hand to help the visitors if needed.
When this was completed, the Students could enjoy the taste of their work. This was followed by the important task of cleaning up before they left.
In the other room Ms. Corso explained how to write a Haiku. This is a 3-line traditional Japanese poem using 5 syllables for the first line. Seven syllables in the next line. And a third line again with 5 syllables.
Ms. Corso used a squirrel as inspiration for a topic. But some Students used their own ideas to write about. After a short time limit a few Students were chosen to read their creation.
A number of Seniors were available to give advice and some suggestion. After a poem was read out loud the writer received snaps as applause.
When the classed switched rooms they took a brief tour of the Cyber Security class.
The Week of the Arts will have their Finale on Friday with both Bixby and Steen Schools having performances by the Bogota High School Jazz Band, the Choir, and scenes from this Spring Musical for the Students.

Bixby Week of the Arts

4-June-2026
On Monday-1-June the E. Roy Bixby Elementary Schools in Bogota had a Grand Opening for their Week of the Arts of 2026.
The first assembly featured a welcoming video to the Student of what to expect for the rest of the week.
This was followed by a display of Chinese Acrobatics by Li Liu. Her performance included such acts as Spinning Plates, Diabolo Yoyos and Ribbon Twilling. During the assembly Li Liu asked for a few volunteers Students to join a part of the show. She showed one group how to spin plates. Then helped them pass a spinning plate to each other.
A second group of Students learned Ribbon Twilling, which created a wave of colour in front of their Classmates.
This year the week was filled with array of events that celebrates the world of all styles of art that are available. There are many performances, workshops, and immersive experiences to enjoy and learn from. Teachers and Students worked together to lead a series of workshops, sharing their expertise and igniting a spark of creativity in everyone who participated.
The week will end with the Fine Arts Dept. of Bogota High School performing for the Students.
