Culinary Arts and Creative Writing

 4-June-2026

On Thursday-4-June, Fifth grade Students of Ms. Candelaria, Ms. Trupp, and Mr. Autore of the Lillian M. Steen School in Bogota went to the Career & Technical Education Building (CTE) to have special classes as a part of Week of the Arts for 2026. These were Culinary Arts with Mr. Cavanaugh, and Creative Writing with Ms. Corso.
The Fifth-Grade Students of Ms. Jones, Ms. Parente, and Ms. Mawer has the same experience the day before.
They were split into two groups. One would go into the Kitchen and had the opportunity to frost cupcakes. When they enter the room, the Students first needed to wash their hands then watch Mr. Cavanaugh demonstrate how to use a piping bag and neatly add sprinkles.
The Culinary Arts Students were on hand to help the visitors if needed.
When this was completed, the Students could enjoy the taste of their work. This was followed by the important task of cleaning up before they left.
In the other room Ms. Corso explained how to write a Haiku. This is a 3-line traditional Japanese poem using 5 syllables for the first line. Seven syllables in the next line. And a third line again with 5 syllables.
Ms. Corso used a squirrel as inspiration for a topic. But some Students used their own ideas to write about. After a short time limit a few Students were chosen to read their creation.
A number of Seniors were available to give advice and some suggestion. After a poem was read out loud the writer received snaps as applause.
When the classed switched rooms they took a brief tour of the Cyber Security class.
The Week of the Arts will have their Finale on Friday with both Bixby and Steen Schools having performances by the Bogota High School Jazz Band, the Choir, and scenes from this Spring Musical for the Students.
