On Wednesday-24-June, the Lillian M. Steen School in Bogota held their Fifth-Grade Promotion Ceremony for the Class of 2026.
With the Redistricting of the Elementary Schools for this school year the fifth-grade class had a total of 90 Students. They moved the ceremony to Feigel Field. With the stage place in the centre of the field, the seats for Family and Friends were placed on the playing surface.
This year the Fourth-Grade class also attended the event while sitting in the Grandstand.
The morning started with Principal Kelly DeCongelio welcoming those in attendance.
Then Mr. Landon Martinez, Mr. Liam Sosa, Mr. Kayden Cabrera-Reyes, and Mr. Levi Hernandez led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance. This was followed by all the Students singing, and signing, America the Beautiful. This included the Seven Teachers signing the words to the music.
Superintendent Mr. Damian Kennedy asked the Students to consider the achievements of this year's Senior Class. He added that they should learn, work hard, try new things, dream big, and believe in themselves.
In Principal DeCongelio said this year's fifth grade class, learned, took on challenges, and found strength with their fellow classmates. She asked them to bring the kindness, respect, and perseverance into the Middle School next school year.
Then the Student Speakers addressed the audience. They were Ms. Emma Loza and Ms. Alvi Ahmed, they talked about their experience at Steen School. From their first days at the school making new friendships, learning new ideas, and watching each other grow-up. Plus remembering all activities, they shared during their Fifth-Grade year.
Fifth Grade Teachers Ms. Pat Candelaria, and Ms. Kelly Jones stepped on stage, and asked a number of Students to come forward. Then groups of Students used the microphone to thank all the members of the Staff and Faculty for their work on keeping the building clean and safe, bringing them to the fieldtrips, making sure they received a healthy lunch, and helping them get a forgotten book, or instruments, that Parents needed to bring to the school. This was followed by the class singing "You've Got a Friend” accompanied by Ms. Arianna Dellosa on keyboard.
Finally, the time came to have the 2026 Fifth Grade Class of the Lillian M. Steen school receive their Certificates of Promotion from Principal DeCongelio. When the final certificate was presented, Ms. Morgan Parente introduced Students Ms. Leilana Ortiz, Ms. Kali Holland, and Mr. Christopher Arguello to give the Parent Dedication while each Student was given a red rose to be presented to their Family. This was followed by the Students joining their Families after the recessional to begin the next phase of their Academic Careers.
