On Wednesday-24-June, the Bogota High School Class of 2026 held their Commencement Ceremony on Feigel Field. High School Principal Dr. Jeannie Paz welcomed the attendees to the 99th graduating class in the school's history with 97 Seniors.
The program started with Mr. David Beria giving the Flag Salute. Next was Mr. Jared Clark leading the National Anthem.
This was followed by Principal Paz's message to the Students to stay curious, keep your integrity. Take risks, pursue your dreams and be kind & have compassion.
Dr. Paz then introduced Superintendent of Bogota Schools Mr. Damian Kennedy. He opened about the challenges and worries of when this day will come…that the New York Knicks are NBA Champions. He congratulated the Students in saying that the 97 Seniors had 128 acceptances from Colleges, Universities and Technical Schools. With over 14 million dollars in Scholarships and awards. Superintendent Kennedy continued by saying each path has opportunities if you just show up. Be there for the people around you and yourself.
The next speaker was the Salutatorian Mr. Hussain Salam. He talked about ending being nonchalant. This can be done by not worrying about the "what-ifs" and reflex on what has happen and what can happen.
Next the Bogota Concert Band played “How to Train Your Dragon” under the direction of Ms. Bernadette Duran.
In her Valedictorian address Ms. Ana Michel had inspiration from her Parents for helping to guide her to this point. Ms. Michel also asked her classmates to let go the standards of others. Choose your own happiness. Believe in yourself, remember where you came from, even the smallest moments in your life.
This was followed by the Bogota High School Choir singing " Time of Your Life" under the Direction of Mr. Michael Prachthauser.
Then all the Seniors of the Class of 2026 would be presented with their Diplomas.
Members of the Student Council, Ms. Serene Abdel-Aziz, Ms. Ana Michel, Ms. Jasmine Tineo and Ms. Cristina Ter-Meliksetian led the Graduates in the Ephebic Oath. Then they announced their class gift to the school will be a new podium to be used in the school Auditorium and other High School events.
