VFW Wrestling

On Friday-18- September “ Wrestling is Magic” returned to the Bogota VFW post #5561. The was their Ascendio event were, on  this night, Tag Team Champions retained their title and a first ever Women’s Champion was crowd. Old rivalries were rekindled , and new Wrestlers made their debut. But the main attraction to the evenings event was again the interaction of the Audience to the Athletes. Before the Matches started the fans had a chance to shop for souvenirs of their favorite wrestler and relax with a hot-dog and soda. When the intermission came by some of the Wrestlers can out of their dressing rooms to meet the fans.
This gave the younger fans a chance to get Autographs from their favorites and to talk to their hero’s. Both the “ Baby Faces” and the “Heels” took the time to be with the fans young and old. This also gave Parents a chance to get photos of their Children with the Stars, and some were lucky enough to pose in the ring with the Wrestlers. All of this is use to give the event the Family atmosphere that is sometimes missing in Professional  Sports. This  may be a minor league of Wrestling, but the effort is still 100%. Events like this is where new talent has a chance to learn the craft, as well as actually meet the fans who are paying the money to see them. While there is still the physical contact and collision that come with the sport the Athletes still remember who is in the Audience and what they are coming to see.
Post Commander Alex Hernandez is pleased with the experience of the Wrestling shows at the Post, and is looking to go make them a regular event. He is thinking of ways to help with the parking situation, and how to attract more local residents to the shows.  He knows that competing opposite High School Sports is a difficult task, but is happy  that  Post 5561 is now being exposed to a larger number of people in Bergen County.  One of his goals is to show that the Bogota VFW Post 5561 is there to perform their main mission as a place where any Veteran, from any era has a place to come for relaxation, and assistance if needed. The next part is to show the versatility  of the hall as an entertainment and event venue. The rental of their space will go to help the post continue to be a location for the citizens of Bogota to use and enjoy when needed.
