Cross Country Workouts

18-July-2020
Starting  on the week of 13-July the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association allowed for the State School Districts to have supervision workouts for fall sports.  The guidelines set are to only have  one session a day for no more than 90 minutes. Which will include 10 minute warm-up and cool-down period. Along with water break as needed. All workouts must be held out doors and with out physical contact. Student Athletes  must be placed in groups of no more than ten, and the group must stay remain the same throughout  the session. Temperatures must be taken and recorded for an individual to be allowed to participate. When not engaged in “high-intensity aerobic activity” Students must wear face mask and be in a safe distance. Coach must wear face mask and be in a safe distance at all time. There can be no sharing of equipment, and locker room (except for restrooms) can not be used. This first phase will last until the end of July.  After that it will be determined if the next phase of practices can move forward.  There will be a two week break from all live action meetings from, late August to Mid-September when School will allowed to reopen.
The regular season will begin one month later than normal in October. Playoffs and other post season game will be determined as the season is taken place.
The Bogota Cross Country Bucs are holding their workouts in a different way. They are schedule to gather in the morning. This there a larger than usually number of Student trying out for both the Women’s ad Men’s Squad.  In-order to keep the runners safe Coach Pat Rochford has split the teams into two groups. One groups consists of Freshman and Sophomore Students. The other group are members of the Varsity team from last year. Each group trains other day to keep the total numbers low. Even then the squads are separated into smaller groups. While doing warm-up, stretching, group talks  masks are being worn all the time at a safe distance.
The Varsity Squad then leaves Feigel Field to do road work.  Since the runners are allowed to not wear a mask while running, the groups are given staggered starts. While some runners may begin close to each other during the running  the distances between each other grows. The Students are trailed, in car, by Coach Rochford so he can monitor their the time to ensure they do not go over the 90 time limit.
The Freshman group moves to the walking trails on the east side of Olsen Park. They are given a set time to do as many laps as possible. Normally they should be running the whole time, but Coach Rochford informed then to at least walk if need, and to alert him if any other problems developed.  Coach Rochford told both groups while running on the sidewalks it is their responsibility to keep the public safe. They need to be aware who they may in-counter and adjust their pace in plenty of time to maintain a safe distance.
At the end of the running both groups returned to Feigel Field for some cooling down exercises and a final talk by Coach Rochford.
