Bogota Board of Education

  The Bogota Board of Education held their second meeting for the Month of June. This was held in Speary gym, and was lived streamed on zoom.
   In his report Superintendent  Mr. Damien Kennedy recognized the Faculty and staff that will retire at the end of the current school year. Superintendent Kennedy included those personal that retired in 2020 that could not be full honoured. They were: 
From 2020 
Ms. Deborah Hunter Elementary School Teacher 1982-2020.
Ms. Jeannette Hall Elementary School Teacher 2006-2020
Mr. Robert Calleja Art Teacher 2001-2020
From 2021
Ms. Cheryl Martin Elementary School Teacher 1997-2021
Ms. Cynthia Piano Elementary School Teacher 1999-2021
Ms. Arlene Crugnola Business Teacher 2008-2021
Ms. Karolyn Misa Guidance Counselor 2003-2021
Ms. Mary Lou Schweitzer-Collins School Nurse 2002-2021
Mr.Luis Ramirez Maintenance Supervisor 2014-2021
All were presented with plaques in gratitude.
   Next came interviews for the hire of a Bond Counsel and Auditor. The vote for the Auditor was held after an Executive Session discussion. The Bond Counsel was part of the agenda items. 
   Other announcement 
   The trustees then considered the consent agenda. Almost all item were passed by an unanimous vote.  One trustee need to recuse themselves on a a couple of personal items.
Then the Board voted on the appointment of Wilcox and Company  to be hired as the Districts Auditor. This was approved by a 5-4 vote
   Item of note that were approved are. The name of the new school building, that  used to be St. Joseph School for 6th & 7th grade Students will be: the  ‘Bogota Middle School” 
  In personal four Custodians,  Special Education Teacher Marissa Conti, Dance Teacher Laura De La Garza Noble, New Elementary School Teacher Julia Contino, and Stelios Giannoulis, New School Nurse Nancy Fox.  Another appointment was of Dr. Malcom Lash as Vice Principal of Bogota High School. And approval of a five year  contract for Mr. Damian Kennedy as Superintendent of Schools.
     After the interview process the Board went into executive session. When the meeting was reconvened there was a vote on the appointment recommended by the District’s Business Agent. This rejected by a 5-4. After a lengthy  discussion a second firm was voted on for the position. This firm was confirmed by a 5-4 vote.  
 At the end of the second public comments, Superintendent Kennedy talked about the importance of have in-person contact when possible. This includes Board Meeting,  School Sports & other events. and the chance to celebrate together a graduation of the Students attending the Districts Public Schools. 
  The next Board of Education meeting will be on Tuesday-31-August and is scheduled to start at 7:00p. Location and ability to attend will follow.
