National Junior Honor Society

    On Thursday-3-June the Bogota High School chapter of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) held their induction ceremony for 2021. A high of eleven Junior High School Students were inducted to this year’s class.  Yazan Albean, Kathleen Aparicio, Logan Harty, Lucas Leong, Adamarys Pino, Hailey Portugal, Kingston Singh, Zohaib Ayed, Ximena Vargas,   Cristina Ter-Meliksetian , and Hazel Ratliff became the newest members
  The ceremony started with Staff Advisor  Ms. Karolyn Misa opening the program, She introduced Junior Honor Society President Emily Cabrera. Ms. Cabrera, along with  Treasurer Emily Palagano, explained the principals and requirement to be selected to join the National Junior Honor Society.
   The guest speaker was NJHS Alumni Amisha Singh. Ms. Singh talked about her time as a National Junior Honor Society member and what it means to her.
   The to be selected to be come a part of the National Junior Honor Society a Student had to meet their standards. These requirements are Scholarship: a cumulative GPA of 85, or, 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, or equivalent standard of excellence. She then lit the first of five candles symbolic  candles.  Then other officers continue by describing the other requirements of admission and lighting a candle for each. Service: voluntary contributions made by a student to the school or community, done without compensation. In Leadership: a Student  who are resourceful, good problem solvers, and idea contributors. Leadership experiences can be drawn from school or community activities while working with or for others. For Character: a student of good character is cooperative; demonstrates high standards of honesty and reliability; shows courtesy, concern, and respect for others; and generally maintains a clean disciplinary record. And in Citizenship: a Student who demonstrates citizenship understands the importance of civic engagement. 
    This year, only the Students and their Parents could attend. This
 latest NJHS class already received their certificates of acceptance. As well their pins. Then they National Junior Honor Society pledge, symbolizing their induction to the National Junior Honor Society.
  The final speaker was Bogota High School Principal Ms. Kelly DeCongelio she took a moment to congratulate the new inductees.  Then Principal DeCongelio  thanked Advisor Ms. Karolyn Misa for her time and effort as Advisor for the National Junior Honor Society. Ms. Misa was the driving forces to open a NJHS chapter in Bogota High School. She was the advisor to the first class in 2016, and had overseen the program ever since. Ms. Misa will be retiring after the current school year. Principal DeCongelio wanted to thanked Ms. Misa and recognize her all she done with the 7th &8th grade Student in Bogota.
