Lady Bucs Volleyball

  On Monday-21-August the Bogota Lady Bucs Volleyball team held their first day of training camp in defense of their 2022 Group I State title. The team gather gathered in front of Head Coach Brad DiRupo in Speary Gym. He addressed the players to let them know that the other teams in New Jersey will not care about how many players graduated last year, what problems they may have in school, or anything else off the court. They just want to beat you. And told the players it is up to them to do something about.

   Next came a series of warm-up exercise including sprints until they started to get tired. This was followed by a set of drill. They ranged from passing formation and how to track the movement of the ball. They worked on hand position, and targeting were to send the pass. Other exercises were to move into receiving position and pass the ball forward. One group of players were shown techniques to set a block. Feet placement arm position, how to time the jump, and to stay off the net.  Another group went over how to keep a spiked ball in play so it can be successfully returned. While other did repetitions on delivering a spike. Timing, force, and placement were done over and over to get the feel of it without thinking. The final group was the settings practicing their form in getting the ball to a place where the hitters and deliver a kill shot. While this was being over seen by Coach DiRupo and errant spiked ball struck him in the leg. While the player quickly apologized, he just slowly looked up, with a slight grim, and said. "If that is how you do it during the game, it will be fine." 

  The practice continued with more drills, some inter squad competitions, and reminders it is up to the players of how good they want to be.

  The Lady Bucs open their season on Thursday-7-September against Becton. This will be the Home Opener in Speary Gym with the first serve scheduled for 4:00p.
