On Thursday-2-October, the Bogota Football Bucs hosted the Weehawken Indians on
Feigel Field in the Bogota Athletic Complex.
Bogota would win the game by the score of 61 to 60 in a Double Overtime contest.
The Bucs opened the scoring with a Jayden Gonzalez Touchdown from 6 yards away, Adrien Ventura kick the Extra Point. Weehawken answered that with a 84-yard run from Emmanuel De La Hoz. The 2-point conversion was stopped. Bogota’s Jaidin Gonzalez then received a 60-yard pass from Jayden Gonzalez, with a second Adrien Ventura extra point. The first 12 minutes ended with Bogota holding a 14 to 6 advantage.
In the second quarter the two teams traded
Major Scores. Bogota’s Matt Heras scored on a 43-yard pass from Jayden Gonzalez
and another Adrien Ventura extra point. The Indian’s Donovan Alves
ran the ball in from 2 yards out. The
Bucs took a 21 to 12 lead into Halftime.
After
the restart
Jayden Gonzalez had a 35-yard Touchdown
run with Adrien Ventura again kicking the Extra Point. The Indians’ Emmanuel De La Hoz
had two Touchdowns in a row, a 2-yard run, then a 35-yard pass from Dylan
Hablitz. With Donovan Alves catching a Dylan Hablitz pass for the
2-point conversion. Jaidin Gonzalez return the ensuing Kickoff 82 yards for
a Touchdown; the extra point was blocked.
Bogota still led 34 to 26 at the three-quarter
time mark.
Weehawken started the fourth with Emmanuel De La Hoz catching a 14-yard touchdown pass from Dylan Hablitz. Mr. De La Hoz finished the play with a 2-point conversion run. This tied the game at 34 apiece. Bogota regain the lead with a Jaidin Gonzalez 64-yard pass from Jayden Gonzalez and a Adrien Ventura Extra point. With just under 7 minutes left the Indians moved closer on a Donovan Alves 7-yard catch from Dylan Hablitz the conversion was stopped. But the score then stood at 41-40.
At the 2:02 mark, the Bucs Matt Heras scored on a 8-yard run and another Adrien Ventura Extra Point giving Bogota an advantage of 48-40. Weehawken drove down the field with Dylan Hablitz throwing a 12-yard Touchdown pass to Donovan Alves. The two combined on the conversion to tie the game at 48-48 with 19 seconds left in the fourth quarter. With no time remaining Bogota had one more play, due to a defensive penalty. Bogota’s Adrien Ventura tried for a 50-yard field goal, but it fell short.
Both Head Coaches and the Officials met at the 50-yard line to explain what will happen next.
NJISSA rules for overtime is each team gets a maximum of three possessions to score. All possessions will start at the 25-yard line of one end zone. Bogota won the toss and elected to start first. Weehawken chose the South Endzone to use.
The first overtime saw Bogota’s Jayden Gonzalez run to his left for a 25-yard Touchdown. The extra point was stopped. Next Weehawken’s Dylan Hablitz threw a 12 -yard Touchdown pass to Donovan Alves with the conversion unsuccessful. The scored board showed 54 Points for both teams.
The Indians had the ball first in the second overtime. This time Dylan Hablitz threw a 25-yard Touchdown pass to Donovan Alves with the conversion being stopped by the Bucs defense. With Bogota’s chance with the ball, Jayden Gonzalez ran to his right for a 6-yard Touchdown. Adrien Ventura’s Extra Point kick had the distance and precision enough to sail threw the uprights to secure a 61 to 60 Bogota win.
After the two teams congratulated each other for what they had just experience, the Bogota Students had the chance to share the moment with their schoolmates.
Jayden Gonzalez threw for 207 yards with 3 Touchdown Passes going 7 for 14. He also ran for 200 yards and 4 rushing Touchdowns for a total of 407 yard with 7 Touchdowns. Jaidin Gonzalez finished with 148 yard with 2 Touchdowns in receptions. Adrien Ventura made 7 out of 9 Extra Points. Bogota ended the game with 694 yards in total.
This year at least one other game had over 100 Points. This was on Thursday-11-September when Iona Prep beat Paramus Catholic 58 to 48 with 106 points in regulation.
Bogota’s record is now 4-2. They next play on Friday-10-October when they travel to Wood-Ridge with a 7:00p kick-off.
