26-October-2025
As part of the Bogota High School 100th Anniversary Home-coming Weekend, Saturday-25 October the Board of Education held a ribbon cutting Ceremony to officially open the new Career & Technical Education Building (CTE). This was held in front of the building at 390 Palisade Ave.
District
Superintendent Mr. Damian Kennedy talked about how when the old Masonic Hall
building came on the market the idea of using that for additional classroom
space for the High School began. With the passing of the bond referendum in
March of 2023, plans included to turn this space into Vocational classrooms. Superintendent
Kennedy thanked the members of Council
for their assistance with the permitting process, Solutions
Architecture for the design along with Mr. Dwight Threepersons with his
Consulting insights.
Next Board President Mr. Frank Miranda included thanks to the voters of the Borough for financing of this project by approving the referendum.
Then the two men, surrounded by Board & Council members with other school officials, cut the Bucs Gold coloured ribbon to open the CTE Building for use.
Members of the public who gathered had the opportunity to tour the building. The first floor will have two classrooms. One is a space for Automotive classes. With modern technology lessons can be taught with specific automotive parts without the need for a full vehicle.
Next to that is the Building Trades classroom. More equipment will arrive for full class work by the end of the year.
On the second floor there are classes in Culinary Arts. This holds a fully functional professional kitchen with three stoves and industrial refrigeration units, and other equipment for a working restaurant kitchen.
Next is the classroom teaching about Cybersecurity. This is equipped with a bank of high-power computers to allow the Students to learn coding, and how to create secure online systems, and how to prevent Cyber-attacks.
The fifth classroom will teach about healthcare as a career. This room will also start to hold classes as more equipment if installed.
After leaving the CTE building some people walked to the High School to see the progress of the Auditorium. They saw a space with brighter lighting, acoustic wall panels for a quieter space, the installation of the fiber floor covering and all new seating. With continuing work, the seats were covered in plastic. Except one that could be sampled. New seats are wider with more leg room. Both the seat and back support are cushioned and are coloured Bogota Purple.
A new stage floor has been installed and will be finished after all overhead work is completed. There is also a new air-conditioning system that will be turned on when all other work is done.
