Strong Man

12-July-2019
Also on 10-July at the South Bergen Football Shoot-out there was a Strongman Competition. This was to test the skill, strength, and endurance of the position of interior linemen. There were 6 stations  that each team of five players had to participate in. Some disciplines were timed events. They were the Tire Flip, Agility Drill, and the Farmers Walk, these would be judged on the combined times of team. The Sled Push was a one time challenge in order to achieve the best time.  The Medicine Ball throw would be scored by the longest distance. And the Tug-of-War was a head on competition between two teams. The Tire Flip used a type of tire found on construction vehicles. The players needed to flip it over five times down the course. Then turn in around and flip it back to the starting position. The Farmers Walk had the participants use a trap bar loaded with a total of 90 lbs. Contestants needed to carry it 15 yards down the course and return with it. The Agility Drill the Lineman started in their stance over Center. At the whistle they needed to run right for 5 yards move left for 10 yards, then return to center. This was repeated a second time in reverse order.
Scoring these three challenges was using the best time of each athlete , and adding them together to find the fastest team total.
The Sled Push was a relay event. Each member of the team would push a single man sled five yards, then would be replaced by the next player. The sled needed to travel 25 yard, then be turned around, and push to the starting line. With each player taking a turn again. This was done  twice with the fastest time winning.
The Medicine Ball Throw had the player kneel down and throw an 8 lbs medicine ball down range. Each player had three attempts and there longest distance would count. All the length were added together and the team throwing the farthest would win.
The final event was straight Tug of War. Two teams of five would face each other in a single elimination format. When a school won they moved on. The competition came down to the Lineman from the Dumont Huskies and the Northern Highland Highlanders. After the rope was released both squads dug in to out pull their opponent. Players and coaches from the other school cheered and encouraged both teams to  find the one more pull, and one more bout of strength to win. Finally the Highlander Five gain the most territory for victory. The win in the Tug of War and enough points in the five other disciplines gave the Northern Highland Highlanders the title of the Strongest squad for 2019
