Bogota Board of Education

  On Tuesday-15-December the Bogota Board of Education held their Regular meeting for the month of December.  In his Superintendent Report Mr. Damian Kennedy first thanked the four outgoing Trustees for their service to the Bogota Public Schools. Two of the Trustees, Mr. Pat McHale, and Mr. Jim Moore, will retire from the Board of education at the end of the year.  Ms. Zabrina Kearns and Ms. Maureen Miller were not re-elected to the school Board in the November Election. The Re-origination meeting  will be held on Tuesday-5-January-2021. The exact time and login information will be announced at a later date.  He also announced that the Public school will hold a half day session on Thursday-17-December due to the upcoming Winter Storm. The Board of Education will adjust the times and class day if there are power outages, or other unforeseen conditions. Superintendent Report Mr. Damian Kennedy is still planning to have Tuesday-19-January-2021 as the reopening of classroom for Students in the Hybrid learning system. This will based of the Board of Health finding on the  number of cases that are reported.
 It was also mention that High School Students are still required to perform Community Service for this school year. This will included volunteering to shovel snow form the sidewalks for Bogota Senior Citizens. It was recommendation to contact High School Principal, Ms.Kelly DeCongelio for learning how take advantage of this service. 
  When the Trustees moved to the discussion of the agenda, all items were passed by  a unanimous decision. Some of the more noteworthy items 
that were passed are: 
-Approving of an Anime Club for Students in Grades 7-8. and a Book Club for Students in Grades 7-12.
- The appointment of Mr. Robert Alvarez as Middle School Girls Basketball Coach
- The appointment of Nicole Caraballo as an Elementary Teacher at Bixby School
- The acceptance  Bergen County CARES Act grant to help finance the continuation of virtual learning , and for Personal Protection Equipment.
- Two item that were approved were, to have an Architectural study of  St. Joseph School. Along with a five year lease on using some class room at St. Joseph. These items will allow the District to use rooms there to house two Pre-School Classrooms starting in the 2012-22 School Year. No other Public School classes are planned there currently.

   The next Board of Education meeting is scheduled for Tuesday-5-January for the Re-organization meeting with the time and access information to be announced at a later date.This would be a virtual meeting.
