Bogota Sports

    The Bogota Bucs Basketball teams play a doubleheader against Green  Meadow of New York on Friday 16-Jan. These games were played at Speary  Gym. The Lady Bucs played in the opener and took an early lead after one quarter. The Lady Warriors took advantage of their shooting to  go into the half with a 7-10 lead. After the restart Coach Kennedy had his team press the Green Meadows offense which caused a number of turnovers. Bogota took full advantage, and started connecting on their shots.  Bogota scored a 21 point third quarter to take command of the game for a 40-15 victory.   Emma O'Brien lead the team in scoring with 10 Pointers including 2 Three Point Baskets, Alanan O'Brien also made 2 three points scores.
   The Lady Bucs lost their next on Saturday 17- at Home against Saddle Brook by the score of 20-47. They next at Speary Gym on Tuesday 20-Jan against Midland Park. Tip off is scheduled for 4:00p.

   In the second game the Boys team started strong to grab an early lead and kept it for the entire game. Once with the lead Bogota control the pace of the game with their passing, and defense. The Bucs have started to learn their new system since the loss of Danny Conner by spreading around the scoring with Anthony Ovalle leading with 20 Points, Chris Alcartara adding another 18 Points. Mr. Ovalle also  had a game high of 5 three point baskets with Andrew Raid making 4 three point shots.  Kenny Dixon grabbed 10 rebounds in the 76-36 victory by Bogota.
   In one serious moment in the game occurred when Bogota's Isiah DeLaCruz and Green Meadows' James Micllo, in trying to capture a loose ball,  collided near the bleachers causing Mr. Micllo  to fall on his back. He laid face down in discomfort for a moment. When play was stop both Green Meadows Coach & Bogota's Coach Mahoney race over  along with the Bogota Trainer to tend to the player. A member of the Bogota Volunteer Fire Dept. in attendance also comforted Mr. Micllo.  James's Father also was brought down to the court to help his son up. Mr. Micllo , after some bench time was able to return to play. During the post game handshakes Coach Mahoney took some time to talk to Mr. Micllo to make sure he was alright and to wish him well.  Bogota's Danny Connors and James Micllo then talked for a while as fellow Seniors.
  Bogota next game is at Midland Park on Tuesday 20-Jan. The game is scheduled to start at 7:00p
