On Thursday 5-November The group New Jersey Cares arranged a Volunteer event for the Bogota VFW Ralph Hall Post #5561. This had Active duty members from different branches of the Armed Services volunteering their time. Members of the US. Army, US Air Force, US Coast Guard, and National Guard units took place at this event. Also volunteering were members from the NBA as part of their month long Supporting the Troops event. The " Hoops for Troops" support the US Military Personnel There was two part to this event. One part was to pack boxes with " luxury" item that may not be part of standard issue equipment. Some of these item are basic in day to day life at home, but a part of good cotton socks, a refillable water bottle that can be easily fill & carried, and even a new deck of playing cards to help pass the time away from home may help the to show the troops overseas that they are still being remembered and thought about.
The next part was to freshen up the hall bathrooms with a good cleaning and fresh coat of paint. This not only helps the Veterans who use the hall feel good about their surrounding, but this will also help the hall itself to become a more desirable venue to host other events both Public and Private. The process from the VFW Hall rental is used not only as upkeep for the building, but also help Post 5561 maintain their mission to reach out and offer assistance to any Veteran in the local area who needs a safe place to come and be welcomed to.
The next major event at the Bogota VFW Ralph Hall Post # 5561 will when it will host its 52nd annual Veterans Day ceremony. This is a chance for the citizens of Bogota to show their thanks and appreciation for what the members of the Armed Services both past & present mean to the Country.
