Bogota Year in Review part 1

27-December-2016

   This is the first of a four part series that will highlight some of the stories covered by Bogtoa Blog NJ for the year 2016.  This post will cover the Months from January to March.


 Sunday 3-January   The Bogota Borough Council held its 2016 Sine Die meeting.  Mayor Chris Keleman was  sworn in to a full three year term.  Councilwoman Daniele Fede  and Frank Miranda were sworn in for their full term on Borough Council. Councilman John Mitchell was elected as Council President for the upcoming year.



Tuesday-5- January  A settlement former Police Officer Regina Tasca and the Borough of Bogota was reach with both sides dropping their charges and Officer Tasca  agreeing to retire effective 31-Dec. 2015 

                                 


Thursday 7- January  The Bogota Board of Education had its annual reorganization meeting.

  Eileen Lewis , Kathryn Van Buren  and Jo-Ellen Granquist  were sworn into their three year terms.

                                               

Sunday 31-January   The Coalition to ban Unsafe Oil Trains, and 350NJ   held a rally in Bogota to increase public awareness about the shipment  of crude oil through Bergen, County. Approximately 60- 70 people gather on the south walk of the Albert Graf Bridge  over the railroad tracks.
                                    

 Tuesday -2- February  Bogota Men's varsity  basketball coach Jay Mahoney recorded his 600th win. This came at Waldwick in a 42-40 victory over the Warriors. 


                                                 


Thursday-4- February  Bogota Recreation Director  pleaded guilty of driving under the influence  in connection with a traffic accident occurring in November of  2015


                       


Thursday-18- February  The Bogota Borough Council  voted to reorganized the Bogota Recreation Commission 
  
                         


 Thursday 25-February   The Bogota Bucs Men's Basketball team secured a tie for the Patriot League title with a 63-53 win at Saddle River Day School.






 Saturday 12- March   The Bogota Recreation Commission hosted its annual Easter Egg Hunt in Olsen Park.  Children from Preschool to fourth grade gathered by the Environmental Walk bridge 

                                      

  Friday -18-March  The Bogota High School Fine Arts Dept. had its Opening Night of their Spring Musical " My Fair Lady"  This feature Bianca Acevedo as Eliza Doolittle, Michael Heck as Prof. Henry Higgins, and Melissa Ramirez as Col. Pickering

                                                     

 Saturday 19-March  The Bogota Environmental Commission held their second annual Green Fair. This took place at the Bogota Recreation Center in Olsen Park. Some of the participants  included Bogota Beautiful, and members of  Northeast New Jersey Bee Keepers Association, and Bogota Blog NJ. Councilwoman Daniele Fede was also presenting representing the Bogota Green Team.
