Bogota Beautiful

   On Monday-20-March Bogota Beautiful had its board meeting for March. This was postponed from their regular meeting on Wednesday-13-March. The first order of business was the announcement that the Bogota Community Garden was granted an expansion of their current site on River Rd. They plan to add 4 more raise planting beds to bring the total to 20. This will require the garden to increase by six feet  along the west side of the garden and by eighteen feet towards the north side. This will allow the garden to have two rows of 10  planting beds each.  The Garden also is seeking to add a number of support structures such as a tool shed, compost area and benches. Plots are now available for this years growing season  at $30 for a 6'x 4' planter. Anyone wishing to reserve at planter for themselves, or as a group should contact the  Bogota Community Garden at:
 bogotacommunitygarden@gmail.com for information on reserving a bed, and  to learn about the requirement will be to be a part of the garden.
   The next item from their agenda was discussion  of more details for Bogota Beautiful's third annual Earth Day Clean-up. This will be held on Saturday 22- April starting at 10:00a and will begin at the Bogota Recreation Center located at 162 W. Main St. Access to the Rec Center will remain open during the replacement of the Lt Ryan Bridge.  At this time they plan to work on the West Main St Business district, including spring maintenance of the street planters there. Other area for beautification will include the World War I Memorial at W. Ft. Lee rd and River rd and the  Bogota Community Garden.  Bogota Beautiful is now accepting sign-ups for anyone wishing to be a Volunteer on this day. The number of Volunteers that sign up will help them plan on how many areas will be work on that day. They are also accepting donations of any equipment to  help with the clean up. Gloves, hats, racks, shoves, broom, or any other type of lawn equipment will be accepted. They are also looking for anyone who has their own power equipment to Volunteer their services on that day.  Anyone with tillers, leaf blowers,  power washers and cordless mowers would be welcome.  Bogota Beautiful is also interested in any business who would be able donate refreshment for the Volunteers. Water, snack, fruit, and Sandwiches are the primary need to get the Volunteers going on a late spring afternoon. High School and College Student will be awarded community service credit for volunteering for this event.    Bogota Beautiful is once again sponsoring their Yoga in the Park series.  This will be every Saturday starting on 6-May.  It will continue to at least the end of June Saturday the 24th. It will be a one hour class starting at 9:00a. They will be held in Olsen Park in Bogota. These classes are open to anyone regardless of age, or  experience.  The classes will meet at the Bandshell in Olsen Park depending on the number of attendees classes may be held in the bandshell or on the lawn in front of the bandshell. Everyone you wishes to attend is required to provide their own mat, towels, and water. Comfortable clothing that will allowed  free and ease of movement  should be worn.  There will also be a limited number of Bogota Beautiful exercise mats available for purchase.
   The final item was the announcement of  a " Jump Rope for Heart" fundraiser scheduled for Saturday 27-May. This will have proceeds  raise going to the American Heart Association.  This will be open to the public. More information will be posted when it becomes available.
