May Events

1-May -2018

 Some events scheduled to take place in and around Bogota, for the month of May  starting on Tuesday-1-May. Times and dates may change due weather or other circumstances. Please contact the event for the most up to date information.  More events will be added when they become available.

Continuing
 Starting on Monday-26- February the main parking lot and front entrance to Bogota High School will be closed. This is due to the reconstruction of the Parking lot. Work is scheduled to continue until First week of September-2018.   All access to the High School will be through the side door on the North side of the building.








Continuing 
   The Bogota Police Dept has issued a traffic alert for Thursday-16-November. The Suez water company will be working on the main water line under the street.  Work is schedule  to continue until late January -2018. This will occur on W. Main St. between Larch and Elm Aves. This is scheduled to start at 7:00a and run to 4:00p. All parking on W.Main will be suspend during this time. Traffic in both directions may be detoured during this project, please plan alternate routes. Business parking will be permitted on both Larch and Elm Aves and may cause additional congestion on those streets.

The Bogota Public Library will change its eContent platform. On Tuesday -8-May the contract with bibliotheca for Cloud Library and service  will end.  This will be replaced by OverDrive  at all BCCLS libraries. OverDrive  will offer a new, intuitive app named Libby. This is designed to so that it will be easier to adapt to this new platform. The new Overdrive  platform will again allow to access BCCLS digital content on Kindles devices again.  For more information  please call 201- 488-7185. The Bogota VFW Post #5561 will host their annual Loyalty Day program.They will award the winners of the "Voice of Democracy" and "Patriot's Pen" essay contest. They will also display the work of  the colouring contest for the younger Students. This will be held in the Main Hall located at 240 Leonia Ave Bogota, NJ. This is open to the Public and  is a free event.  This will take place in the Main Hall and start at 8:00p. There will be a local singing group providing live entertainment and a flag presentation.  Then the winners of the Patriots Pen and "Voice of Democracy" writing competition will be announced.  The winning essays will be read aloud and the writers will be given their awards.

   The Bogota  Public Library  host their Toddler play group. This is an opportunity for   young children and their Parents to play and relax in a safe area.    Bogota Beautiful will again host their Yoga in the Park classes. These will run every Saturday in starting  May Class will be one hour and will take place each in Olsen Park and start at 9:00a. Classes will be led by a  Professional Yoga instructor.  The instructors  scheduled this year at Lynn Demetrakis and Kathryn Livingston. The classes are open to anyone regardless of age, or  experience.  The classes will meet at the Band shell in Olsen Park depending on the number of attendees classes may be held in the band shell or on the lawn in front of the band shell. Everyone you wishes to attend is required to provide their own mat, towels, and water. Comfortable clothing that will allowed  free and ease of movement  should be worn. This is free to the public, however it is asked to contact  Bogota Beautiful at there website: bogotabeautiful.com to make a reservation for as many dates as you wish.

  The Bogota Band Parents will again sponsor its  Spring Town Wide Garage Sale  It will run from 10:00a to 4:00p rain or shine. The cost to participate is $15.00 this will allow the seller to have their address listed on the official garage sale map and  they will receive yard sign for their address show that are a participant. Process from the registration fee will go to help support the Bogota High School Marching Buccaneer Band.   The Bogota Band Parents is another group of Families who  join together to help fund the High School program when School fund are not available.  Some of the help provided is trip planning and addition transportation to away football game, and Band competitions. Providing  chaperoning for trips and other items needed to a successful Band program.     The Bogota Public Library will host a workshop for young athletes in Bogota  This will be the first of four Saturday's to encourage Students to learn more about how learning any sport can be beneficial in everyday life. It will be in two separate age groups.  One group for anyone ages from 2-7 will run from  11:00a. to noon.  All Students who participate must be accompanied by a Parent or Guardian through out the event.    The Village of Ridgefield Park will host their annual Green Fair. This will be co-sponsored by the Bogota, and the Ridgefield Park Green Teams along with the Ridgefield Park Environmental Commissioner.  This will run from 10:00a to 3:00p and is open to the public as a free event. There will be live shows and demonstration along with local artisan displays, food,  canoe ride, and fishing demostations. 
  The fair will take place at Riverside Park located at 24 Industrial Ave. Ridgefield Park, NJ

Hackensack, NJ
 Bergen County will host its second annual heath fair. This will be an opportunity to learn about varieties of heath care and other support services available to the residents of Bergen County.  This will be held at the Rothman Center on the Hackensack Campus of Fairleigh Dickinson University.     The weekly " Meet the Mayor"  event will take place in the office of Mayor Chris Keleman This is open to any Bogota resident who would to ask the Mayor a question about  Bogota, or to discuss any matter to help improve the quality of life in the Borough. Anyone who wishes just to have an informal conversation with the Mayor is also welcome to attend. Meetings will be held on a first come basis. This will run from 5:00p to 7:00p in the Mayor's office. The Steen School PTO will host their sixth annual "Tricky-Tray" fundraiser event. This will  take place at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Ridgefield Park.  Proceeds from this event will go to help fund the Steen PTO. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door.  Admission includes a buffet dinner along with refreshments and desserts. A cash bar will be available. It is asked to bring some Non-perishable food items for the Local Food Pantry.

   The Bogota High School Department of Music will host their Spring Concert. This will feature performances by the Concert band, and the Jazz band under the direction of Mr. Barry McCann. There will also be performance by the Full Choir, and the Women's and Men's Choirs. All of these will be under the direction of Ms.   Andrea Lynch. The Spring Concert will take place in the Bogota High School Auditorium beginning at 7:30p. Admission for all seats at $5.00. Bogota High School is located at 2 Henry Luthin Pl.

Trinity Lutheran Church in Bogota  will be celebrating  the arrival of Spring by dancing the night away from 5:30-8:00 pm. Their spring fling will feature a DJ, games, photo booth, snacks and more. The Bogota Public Library will offer an AARP  Defensive Driving Course. This is designed for drivers over the age of 50 and will explain update driving rules and teach defensive driving techniques.    This is Memorial Day weekend several closing have been announced. 
   - The Bogota Public Library will be closed on Saturday 26-May -Monday 28-May. They will reopen on Tuesday 29-May with regular Business hours.
 - The Schools of the Bogota Public School  system will be closed  on  Friday-25-May & Monday-29-May.  Regular session will resume on Tuesday 30-May. 
  - St. Joseph's School will be closed  on  Friday-25-May.  Regular session will resume on Tuesday 29-May. 
  - Trinity Lutheran School  will be closed starting  early on Friday-25-May.  Regular session will resume on Tuesday-29-May. 
 - Bogart School will be closed on Monday 28-May,
 - There will be no lawn waste collection on Monday-28-May
 - Borough Hall offices will be closed on Monday-28-May

   The Bogota VFW Ralph Hall post #5561, and the Bogota American Legion Clifford Dunn Post #117 has announced the schedule for their Memorial  Day celebrations for 2016. This year Memorial Day will be on Monday -28-May.  The Bogota VFW, American Legion and the Borough of Bogota will hold their Memorial Day Service starting at 11:00a. This will take place in front of Borough Hall located at 375 Larch Ave Bogota, NJ This event is free and opened to the Public.  The Bogota Memorial Day Parade will start at Palisades Ave & Cedar St in Bogota. This will kick off at 2:00p The Parade will travel North on Palisade to E. Main St. It will turn left onto E. Main St and cross over the  1st Lt. Albert Graf Bridge to Elm Ave. It will make a right turn onto Elm ave and travel north to W. Grove St. It will turn Left onto W. Grove to Larch Ave. It will turn Left onto Larch Ave and travel South to Bogota Borough Hall  and will end after passing by the reviewing stand.
  In preparation for this Memorial Day the Bogota Dept. of Public Works has placed new American flags on the streetlight poles from E. Ft. Lee rd at Palisades Ave  along the parade route to W. Main St and Larch Ave. There are also  new flags hanging in front of Bogota Borough Hall on Larch Ave.
    During the parade the Bogota Girl Scouts will be collecting food items for the St. Joseph's Food bank.  Items such as  canned goods, cereals, pasta, boxes  of potatoes, rice & stuffing can be placed in the wagons that the Girls Scouts will be pulling as they march in the parade.
   Also on that same Monday the Volunteer members of the Bogota Emergency Services Dept. will have their annual inspection. The members, with their equipment, of  The Bogota Fire Dept. and Rescue Squad, will line in front of Borough Hall starting at 9:00a. They will then fall in to be reviewed by the Elected officials of Bogota Government. This will included Mayor Chris Kelemen and members of the Borough Council.
After the inspection the Bogota Volunteer Fire Dept. will hold their remembrance ceremony starting at 10:00a at the memorial service  in Borough Hall Park.

  All these events are open to the public to view. The Bogota VFW will then host an indoor picnic of Hot-dogs and soda in the lower hall Ralph Hall, after the Parade. The post is  located at  241 West. Shore Ave. Bogota, NJ
