On Tuesday-29-April, the Bogota Board of Education held their meeting for the month. Durning his Superintendent Report. Mr. Damien Kennedy first introduced Student Representative Ms. Jhoana Morales. She reported that the High School Women’s and Men’s 400m relay squad each set school records at the League championship races.
Then Superintendent Kennedy announced the four teachers who have been chosen as Teachers of
the year for 2024-25. They were at Bixby Ms. Jessica Pobutkiewicz, Steen’s Ms.
Ariana Dellosa. Ms. Vickie Sheppard at the Middle School, and High School
Teacher Ms. Ingy Adam. All will be honoured by the Board of Education at their
June meeting.
Next Superintendent Kennedy
presented the District Budget for the school year 2025-26. He said that for the
fifth year out of the past six years there will be a 0% increase for the
taxpayers of Bogota. This was due to a
paying down the district’s Debt Service.
Some of the goals for the
upcoming school year will be to improve the reading proficiency of the Student
by Third Grade. Continue to support Student wellness. Improve the physical and online
security systems for all the school buildings.
Superintendent Kennedy also said the Bogota Sports Complex is scheduled to be finished in mid-June. The CTE Building is planned to be open at the start of the 2025-26 school year. A few of the courses that will be offered are Culinary Arts, Automotive, and Cyber Security.
Then the Trustees voted on the consent Agenda, all resolutions were passed by unanimous vote. Items of note included:
- The approval of the 2025-26 School Calendar.
- To accept the resignation of Dr. Malcolm Lash, High School Vice Principal effective 30-June-2025.
- To approve the appointment of Mr. Charles Velez as an Elementary School Teacher.
- To approve the appointment of Ms. Julia Clark as the Middle School Assistant Track Coach.
The next Bogota Board of Education meeting will be on Tuesday-20-May. The Public meeting is scheduled to start at 7:00p. This will be held in the High School Cafeteria located at 2 Henry Luthin Pl. and online. This meeting is open to the Public. For more information, please go to https://www.bogotaboe.com/
