Latest updated progress on the new Bogota Sports Complex. Superintendent Mr. Damian Kennedy, Borough Administrator Mr. Conall O’Malley, Board President Mr. Frank Miranda, and Council President Ms. Lisa Kohles, toured the Softball and Baseball fields to observe the condition of the work. They were escorted by the professionals to hear what has been completed, and what items still need to be finished.
What they saw was both ball fields with the grass fully grown in, the walking paths with their finished layer in place. This includes the section behind the third base line of the baseball diamond, the curb cut at the crosswalk for W. Main St. to Olsen Park, and the return loop to the Bogota Swim Club parking lot. Landscaping has been added with a small grassy hill, near the baseball field, has been created with more trees and new grass seeded in.
Work continues on the running track around the football field. The first layer of the rubberized surface has been added to the track. Multiple layers will be needed with the top section having a Bogota Purple colour added to it. Followed by the line markings painted on. Also, some of the new track equipment was delivered, this includes the Hurdles, supports for the High Jump, and Pole Vault, and landing cushions for both.
The Southern part of the welcome plaza has been paved with the landscaping of plants and trees added, along with light poles installed. Major work is still being done on the Main Plaza entrance. This features a new refreshment stand with a separate section that will be used for equipment storage. This has allowed the Board of Education to donate a number of the old storage sheds to the Bogota Swim Club.
Groundwork on the welcome plaza from Feller Pl. to the football field is still underway before final paving and landscaping can be finished.
Superintendent Kennedy is planning to have a Grand Opening event for the Sports Complex on Friday-6-June. He is also scheduling the High School Commencement Ceremonies for the Class of 2025 on Wednesday June 18 as the first event in the new Bogota Sports Complex.
