On Friday-9-May, the Bogota Go Bucs PTO held a fundraising Paint and Sip event in the Kennedy Emergency Service Building. Proceeds will go to the Go Bucs PTO general fund. This featured local Artist Ms. Christine DeFazio who showed the attendees a step-by-step process of creating the evenings project. The theme of this painting was “Spring” representing the fourth item in the Seasons Series of painting.
The subject they would be recreating was a still life of Daisies in a vase. Ms. DeFazio showed how to cover the canvas in a base colour of blue to one side. Then adding darker shades of the same colour that would become different elements of the scene. Then how the highlighting of some areas can produce the look of curtains or tablecloths.
Next came outlining the shape of the vase and using a combination of white and lighter colours showing how the glass of the vase will reflect light. As painters progressed with each new step Ms. DeFazio walked around the room to see how they were doing, and gave advice on which technique could be used to create the look they were interested in.
The instructions continued on how to add highlights to the vase. How to arrange the flowers above the vase. Then moving on to how the stems and leaves may look, along with the colour of the center where the petals joined together. While everyone was using the same photo as a starting point they all create a vase of daisies in their own style.
At the end of the evening the painters gathered for a group photo and show how they painted the same image, but in their own artistic flare.
